It was a beautiful day at Ft. Spring and the GRWA is grateful for all the many volunteers who came out today to help pick up trash and make our Greenbrier River Shine! We had more people than ever show up (@35+) to help and even had a young family who went out on the river and trashed their kayaks - returning with big lawn mower parts, a chair and bags of debris! Lots of others picked up trash and tires on the river banks, at Davis Spring, near Anvil Rock, and the C&O tunnel. Thank you to all!

Tomorrow - Saturday April 18th! Painted rain barrel silent auction, painted by local schools. We love having kids participating so they can learn about water conservation! The schools showcasing their painted rain barrels and assisting the GRWA fundraising are: Lewisburg, Ronceverte, Alderson, White Sulphur Springs, Rainelle and Crichton Elementary AND East and West Greenbrier Middle Schools. These are just some examples with some still in progress. Silent auction ends at 4:30 pm. You will have the option of purchasing a connector kit as well if you choose that method of water collection.

Just a few openings left! Do you remember how dry last summer was? The Greenbrier River Watershed Association is pleased to sponsor a Rain Barrel Workshop at our Watershed Celebration Day at Lost World Caverns on April 18th, 12:00 - 1:00 pm. Thanks to a grant from WV Rivers, we are able to give the workshop attendees a free rain barrel, and only paying for admission to the event. Please note - we have a limited number available and first priority will be for people who have not received one from us in the past. Your name will be on a list at the event for check off, confirming that you signed up in advance. A water diverter kit is available if you need one. This method is by drilling a hole into your downspout to insert the diverter which directs water to the barrel. Please indicate in the sign up sheet if you will use the downspout diverter method or not so we can plan on how many we will need, as not everyone uses this method. Rain Barrel Sign up link

Thanks to a grant from the Mountain Resource Conservation Development Council, we have 2 types available - a Riparian Mix capable of surviving wet conditions and periodic flooding, stabilizing stream banks and reducing erosion as well as offering habitat for pollinators & wildlife. We also have a Riparian Buffer seed mix to establish deep-rooted dense vegetation to help stabilize banks, filter pollutants and create wildlife habitat. Come visit with us at this event and learn more! Our T-shirts, hats, drybags will also be available for sale. Details about the event - Link to the event here
