Weekly Ballroom Dance Lessons
We had nearly 30 people attend the "smooth" dance lessons in March. Smooth dance is anything that travels around the floor - Foxtrot, Tango, Waltz, and 2-Step, along with fundamentals about lead/follow, frame and posture. Beginning in April rhythm dances will be taught including Swing, Salsa, Rumba, and Cha-Cha. Classes will continue to alternate between smooth and rhythm each month.  There's still time to register and participate. Here are the details:

  • 50 minute beginner basic lessons
  • Held weekly at the Nichols Community Center
  • Wednesday evenings at 5:00pm
  • Group Classes with rotating partners so that individuals may attend solo.
  • You do not have to have a spouse to attend or miss a class if someone you normally come with is unable to attend.
  • There does not need to be an even number of students.
  • The class will rotate between smooth dances one month and rhythm dances the next month.
  • Sign up online at now! Click here. You do not need a Paypal account to register, just a credit card.

Note: you must register. No Walk-ins for these lessons!

Our Instructor:
Aubrey Preston is a resident of Gig Harbor. She started working as a Professional Ballroom Dancer with Arthur Murray in 2006 where she acquired the skills to both teach and perform in the various different partner dances. She also has her own business as a Music Education teacher, allowing her to combine her love for children, music and dancing all in one.
Citizens' Patrol Tips

An important reminder – if you want to sell something on Craigslist or any of the local websites, remember to meet the person at a neutral location. Never give out your address to someone you do not know. Recently, we have had several islanders reported that items were stolen while waiting for someone to come and pick them up.

As the weather gets warmer and we have longer daylight, we may start to see activity at the boat launch and other island locations. If you see something suspicious, call the non-emergency number for the Sheriff's Department:
253-798-4721 or call 911.

Citizens' Patrol hot line: (253) 549-7744.

Emergency Planning Updates

Let us first introduce our new Neighborhood Team leader, Allen-Paul (AP) Templet (pronounced Tomplay). AP will be sending a letter out to the Block Coordinators (aka: Block Captains) soon explaining his plans and reminding them of the dates for the Block Coordinators to come by the NCC to get their new 3-ring binder information kits (see below).

Info Kits Pick-up Dates:
Saturdays from 10:00am to noon on April 6, 13, and 20 at the NCC.
Wednesdays at Men's Coffee, from 10:00am to noon at the NCC through April.

We must also convey our sincere appreciation to Bob Bowser who created our excellent Neighborhood Team. The Team has about 70 of the 120 neighborhoods covered with a Block Coordinator. AP will be continuing to grow the number of Neighborhood Coordinators to get to the point where when anyone asks "Who is my Block Coordinator", we will be able to answer with a name.

There are two calendars shown at The first one shows events scheduled at the Nichols Community Center and is primarily available for space planning purposes. If you're interested in renting the NCC, this calendar tells you if an event is already scheduled there.
The second calendar is the All-Island calendar. This one was created to share island-wide events. It includes FICRA, Museum, Chapel, Yacht Club and other organization events. Refer to this calendar if you are planning something like a block party and want to make sure there isn't a conflict with other events scheduled on Fox Island. If you want your event to appear on this calendar, send a message to

The image below shows how you access the two calendars. Hover over the "Event Calendar" tab and the two calendars appear below. Select the first one to see the NCC events and the second one to see all island event. Note that if you click on "Event Calendar" tab, it will take you to the NCC calendar by default.
