“
Video conferencing with an historian is the highlight of the course. Students read an award winning monograph. I integrate the study of the book throughout the semester, and then video conference using Skype or Zoom with the historian. The students thoroughly digest the book. They understand the historian’s arguments, contribution to historiography and the historian’s use of sources.
The really great thing about using technology like Skype or Zoom is that we’re now able to connect APSU students here in Clarksville with preeminent scholars around the country. My students have discussed books with professors at Cornell University, Texas Christian University, University of Buffalo and Duquesne University.
The professionals in Distance Education make this possible. I know history, they know technology and we work together to benefit APSU students."

ED TECH DAY! APRIL 25TH, 2017!
|
|
April 25, 2017- 9am – 3pm, MUC 303/305
APSU Distance Education and the Office of Information Technology are hosting Ed Tech Day. Faculty, students, staff, and the community can explore and engage with emerging technology we have implemented on our campus, as well as potential new technology we may implement in the future! Please be advised our D2L contract is coming up for renewal in 2018 and we will be hosting different learning management systems at Ed Tech Day such as Blackboard, Canvas, D2L, and Schoology. Other vendors in attendance will be Adobe, Dell, Lenovo, M3 Technology Group, SmarterServices, TriStar Digital Connections, and more! There will be vendor give-a-ways and light refreshments will be served.
April 26, 2017- 8am – 12:45 pm, MUC 308
Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend the learning management system vendor showcase. Each learning management system vendor will have an hour presentation on their individual platform and allow for questions. We strongly encourage faculty to attend this event, as they will be able to express their specific needs and questions to vendors regarding what they desire in a learning management system. Distance Education and Information Technology will be collecting input from this event about institutional needs.

We have been experiencing an issue with the integration between D2L and SmarterProctoring, used for the proctoring of online exams. SmarterProctoring is still functioning; however, there has been a loss of "convenience features" for faculty like being able to pull in exam information from D2L when adding a new exam. We apologize for this loss of functionality and we will continue to work with SmarterServices on a resolution. Students should not experience any issues with the tool. They should still be able to access SmarterProctoring, schedule a proctoring session and take their exams.
In the meantime, please continue to use the tool. When adding a new exam, you will need to select "Manually Setup Exam" instead of selecting the specific exam from D2L. In this way, you will manually add all the exam information rather than dates/times etc being pulled in from D2L. We have how-to's on our website at http://www.apsu.edu/online/online-proctoring for adding an exam in SmarterProctoring. If you need any further assistance, please contact Distance Education at online@apsu.edu or 931-221-6625.
