Spring has finally arrived on campus, and the countdown to summer has begun. It’s incredible to think that class will conclude in one short month and sophomore year is just around the corner.

Mark your calendars for William & Mary’s annual giving day—One Tribe One Day – on Tuesday, April 12! It’s a day for giving back and paying it forward, and we hope you will join us in supporting the Parents Fund. Be sure to use and share downloadable graphics and keep the momentum going with the hashtag #OneTribeOneDay. Get informed about any emergencies or campus alerts by registering with RAVE. and providing some basic contact information. After doing so, you will receive official emergency notifications from the W&M Emergency Management Team via text message and email.

Effective Wednesday, March 30, masks will generally be recommended, but not required, in all indoor spaces, including classes and labs. There will be two exceptions: 1) Masks will continue to be required in the McLeod Tyler Wellness Center for students who are waiting to be seen at the Student Health Center and for all Student Health Center employees while in the clinic, and 2) Masks will continue to be required on public transportation per federal guidelines.

Stacey Harris, dean’s fellow, associate director of disability & access services and member of the student life management team at Boston University, has been selected as William & Mary’s next dean of students.

Harris, who has worked in higher education for 23 years, will assume the position on May 10. She succeeds Marjorie Thomas, who left W&M last July to become vice president for student affairs at the New College of Florida in Sarasota.

If your student is planning to take summer classes or is approved for summer research housing, they may request to live on campus. Below is the Undergraduate Summer Housing timeline:

April 11: Deadline to submit new and/or revised Medical Housing Accommodation requests and documentation to the Student Accessibility Services office for summer undergraduate housing

April 22: Priority Deadline for Summer Housing Applications

April 25: Summer Assignment emails will begin going out this week

The Writing Resources Center, located on the first floor of Swem Library, is a free service provided to W&M students. Trained consultants offer individual assistance with writing, presentation, and other communication assignments across disciplines and at any stage, from generating ideas to polishing a final product. Your student can make an appointment by visiting the WRC webpage.

Students are required to check out of their residence hall no later than 48 hours after their final academic commitment. ALL Residence Halls officially close for the spring semester at 10 a.m on Monday, May 23. 

Spots are filling up quickly, so be sure to reserve your spot for full service summer storage by Dorm Room Movers. If you require your items to be stored over the summer or shipped home, they make it easy! This is how easy it is: They send you boxes and tape. You pack - they’ll take it from there.

Reminder: The University doesn’t provide moving or storage assistance but Dorm Room Movers is the preferred provider for moving, storage and shipping at College of William and Mary.

Join us on April 22, 2022 from 7pm-10pm in the Sunken Garden in celebrating the Asian Centennial. We will be highlighting talent from the Asian, Pacific Islander, and Middle Eastern communities through performances by Griffin Bhangra, Zodiacs, and more! A variety of dishes from premier APM cuisines will also be featured.Learn more about the significance of the Asian Centennial and celebrate 100 years since the admission of Chen Pu-Kao '23, the first Asian student here at William & Mary.

Formal or traditional attire is encouraged. RSVP is required.

Three groups of student volunteers, led by students, partnered with communities in Lynchburg, Kilmarnock, and Upper Marlboro (MD) during spring break. Through Branch Out Alternative Breaks, students learned the goals and approach of their community partners to address complex social issues, and got to work! We were thrilled to be able to travel again for the first time in two years, and look forward to growing in the coming year.

Highland’s annual sheep shearing will take place on Sunday, May 1 (rain or shine), at 2:30 PM. Shearing humanely and sustainably removes a sheep's woolen coat to prepare for the warmer months. Tom Stanley, Virginia Tech Agriculture Extension Agent, will demonstrate the New Zealand sheep shearing method in this agricultural and educational event. If the weather is favorable, visitors are encouraged to enjoy a picnic lunch on Highland's grounds. Admission to the sheep shearing event is $5 per person. Children under 6 are admitted free.

Conference & Event Services is hiring students to support summer events operations. Is your student interested in the hospitality industry or taking summer classes? This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience – with housing included.

Is your student participating in an unpaid summer experience? Make sure to tell your student to check out F.U.S.E.! Fund for Unpaid Summer Experiences (F.U.S.E.) applications are now open in TribeCareers (filter by Position Type: F.U.S.E. Funding). F.U.S.E. exists thanks to kind donations from the Parent's Fund, alumni, and other donors. The fund awards up to $4,000 to undergraduate students who will be completing necessarily unpaid internships over the summer. To apply for the funding, a student will need to have an offer and proof of the unpaid internship opportunity.

STEP is partnering with James Monroe's Highland for a unique day trip to/from the former plantation on Friday, April 15. Interested students should sign-up using the link below. Highland is a historic site located outside Charlottesville, VA and is notable as the home of W&M alumnus and 5th U.S. President, James Monroe. It has become a leader in public education and community engagement, offering educational programs, rustic trails, and special events throughout the year. Highland is also proud to partner with the Highland Council of Descendant Advisors. W&M students are encouraged to visit Highland and consider the site for interdisciplinary research projects.

The Center for Legal & Court Technology (CLCT) at William & Mary Law School has developed a series of introductory law classes for high school and college students. This program gives students interested in law and government, as well as business and technology, the opportunity to experience classes in the comfort of their homes using an interactive videoconferencing platform. Classes are offered in June and July and last between eight and 14 hours. This program offers students an exceptional opportunity to gain valuable knowledge for their future careers.
