Who's who: A photo gallery and recipient list from R+I Week Awards ceremony

There were drinks and food and laughter and after a few years of virtual events, we'll say it felt good to hold the Research + Innovation Week Awards in-person for the first time since the onset of COVID-19.

On April 1, R+I Week culminated in an award ceremony to shine a spotlight on the very faculty and staff who are helping us realize our Research2030 goals.

In our feature this month, find out who from your college won a Faculty Excellence Award or who became one of three Core Values Award winners. (Hint: They're from the College of Nursing, College of Medicine and UC Libraries.)

Plus, meet the new executive director of the Cincinnati Ethics Center and find out who was selected for an Ethics in Action award.

Dear Findings reader,

First, I’d like to say thanks to all those who joined us for Research + Innovation Week 2022 and to the people behind the scenes that made it happen. Our team recorded many of the sessions, and I’d invite you to go back and watch them through our Research Week website.

As we approach the end of the academic year, I wanted to take a moment to highlight a portion of my State of Research presentation, in case you missed it.

Here at UC, we are truly focused on doing research and scholarly activities that improve people’s lives and we’re investing for success.

UC invested $13 million in Fiscal Year 2021-2022 on new initiatives that will make our Research2030 vision of becoming a more inclusive, innovative and impactful research enterprise a reality.

Of that investment, $3.1 million went towards recruiting and retaining top talent, $3.2 million went towards research infrastructure improvements and $6.6 million went towards to new programs, centers and institutes of excellence.

A few examples:

Creation of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Research Program, which seeks to advance an inclusive culture that elevates the impact and outcomes of research;
We launched the Space Research Institute for Discovery and Exploration, a new enterprise-level approach to supporting students and faculty whose research activities intersect with the United States space mission;
Infrastructure investments including supporting the College of Medicine’s new Center for Advanced Structural Biology, upgrades to our vivariums, and UC’s first interdisciplinary research building, Digital Futures, opening later this year.
