New Certification: Certified Stormwater Telepath (CST)

EnviroCert International (ECI) is pleased to announce the development of a groundbreaking new certification: the Certified Stormwater Telepath™ (CST).

Inspired by the recent California changes, this innovative program is designed for professionals who can anticipate stormwater compliance issues before they occur—enhancing proactive BMP management and reducing reliance on traditional inspections.

As stormwater regulations continue to evolve, ECI recognizes the growing value of intuitive field awareness.  The CST certification establishes a new standard for identifying potential BMP failures using advanced perception techniques.

Program Overview

Candidates pursuing the CST certification will be expected to demonstrate competency in the following areas:

  • Detecting sediment movement through intuition alone
  • Identifying potential BMP failures without visual confirmation
  • Interpreting “environmental signals” from slopes, soils, and drainage patterns
  • Communicating telepathically with underperforming sediment control measures

Organizations employing CST-certified professionals may benefit from:

  • Early identification of potential compliance issues
  • Reduced reliance on reactive inspections
  • Enhanced alignment with future predictive stormwater management practices

Additional information regarding eligibility requirements and training modules will be released in the coming months

ECI Announces Beaver-Assisted Sediment Control Pilot Program

EnviroCert International, Inc. (ECI) is launching a pilot program to evaluate beaver-assisted sediment control as an emerging practice within sustainable stormwater management.

This initiative explores how natural infrastructure techniques can complement existing best practices. Beavers demonstrate strong capabilities in:

  • Constructing sediment retention features and check dams
  • Stabilizing small channels
  • Adapting to changing runoff conditions during storm events

Pilot sites will assess the performance and applicability of these methods in controlled environments.

To support professionals in the field, ECI is developing a new continuing education module:

“Working with Beaver-Based Infrastructure”

This training will provide guidance on coordination, implementation considerations, and managing common challenges, including unauthorized dam expansion.

Additional information on participation and program outcomes will be shared in the coming months.

PDHs Now Available for Watching Rainfall

To encourage field awareness:

  • 1 PDH per qualifying rain event
  • Must include reflection: “What did this storm teach you?”
  • Bonus PDH for standing in the rain during inspection
