A Review of Past Events

We continued our sustainability series in March: Our panelists brought current projects into play to discuss how we can transform our infrastructure to be more sustainable from wastewater and water management, renewable energy, sustainable aviation fuel, to decarbonization while also capitalizing on the sustainable forces of nature. Great discussion and insights from different industry angles with executives Patrick Schultz (CEO, Sustainable Industries and Buildings, Veolia North America), Ksenia Kaladiouk (Partner, McKinsey & Company), Jessica Stavole (TÜV SÜD America), Pascal Mittermaier, and Tim Matthey (McKinsey & Company) who asked the right questions and got the audience engaged. Thank you to our board members Alexander Adam for opening the event and to Simon Alfano for spearheading this series on behalf of the German-American Business Council of Boston, Inc.

Lots of smiles celebrating International Women's Day earlier this month: We had the honor of co-hosting with our international partner organizations a wonderfully engaging (and at times very entertaining) panel discussion and networking event with a talented group of female panelists and entrepreneurs. Floris Engelhardt, co-founder of Kano Therapeutics and graduate of the Technical University of Munich, brought the life-science start-up perspective to the discussion. Marie Meslin, Darlene Hollywood, Kaarina Kvaavik completed the panel which Kara Lund expertly moderated. The overall message for (all) entrepreneurs was grit, hard work, fearlessness, enthusiasm, a good support network, mentors & coaches and (a little) craziness will get everyone very far!

Joann Halpern, Director of the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) in New York, provided an enthusiastic and energetic introduction into the creative concept of Design Thinking (an iterative technique to tackle a challenge or to innovate a product or a process) during an early Monday morning presentation in March hosted at Fragomen in Boston. Thank you to Jake Paul Minster and his colleagues at Fragomen for learning along with guests of the GABC!

Young Professionals Steering Committee

Meet the 2024 Young Professionals Steering Committee which just elected Thorben Beckmann and Kai Schmitz as co-chairs for 2024. Former co-chair Felix Kraus (thank you!) will continue to support the group as secretary, which is completed by Susanna Baechle, Johannes Becker, Daniel Danckert, Nadine Klabunde, Mareike Moehlmann, Shirley Sun and the committee's newest member, Jason Wong. See all bios here.

A great crowd gathered at the Lamplighter for the CAMBRIDGE Stammtisch earlier this week despite dreary weather outside. The Stammtisch, while organized by the Young Professionals, is open to EVERYONE, regardless of membership or age. Reach out to Thorben Beckmann or Kai Schmitz if you want to learn more or join the next Metro West Stammtisch (see below).
