Opening Doors, Framing Futures:

Join us for a Groundbreaking Ceremony

As we celebrate 50 years of Habitat for Humanity, the groundbreaking at Evan Circle marks more than the start of construction, it signals the next chapter in our commitment to building strength, stability, and self-reliance through homeownership.

Located in the heart of Watsonville, this project represents real progress for our community, creating permanently affordable homeownership opportunities for local families and expanding access to a future that might otherwise feel out of reach.

Evan Circle is a powerful example of what’s possible when community, partnership, and purpose come together, opening doors today and helping build generational stability for families in Watsonville and beyond.

Join us as we celebrate this milestone and continue the work ahead, because when we build homes, we build futures.

We look forward to sharing this special moment with our community and all those who make this work possible.

🏡 Looking Ahead: Kicking Off Affordable Housing Month

Opening Doors Through Knowledge

As we celebrate the groundbreaking at Evan Circle and 50 years of Habitat for Humanity, we’re looking ahead to May, which marks Affordable Housing Month, and continuing our commitment to opening doors through education, access, and opportunity.

We’re kicking things off with a Property Tax Presentation designed to support current and future homeowners with one of the most important, and often confusing, aspects of homeownership.

Join us for an informative session featuring a County expert who will walk through property tax basics, recent changes, and what to expect as a homeowner. Whether you’re preparing to buy your first home or already navigating homeownership, this is a valuable opportunity to gain clarity, ask questions, and connect with helpful resources.

The presentation will be offered in both Spanish and English, ensuring accessibility for our community.

🤝 Community in Action: Partnerships That Open Doors

At Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay, our impact is made possible through meaningful partnerships that bring resources, expertise, and opportunity directly to the families we serve.

🏡 Partner Spotlight: Knox Roofing & City of Capitola

At Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay, our work is powered by the strength of our community, and the incredible partners who step up to make a lasting impact.

Through our ongoing partnership with the City of Capitola, we continue to support critical repairs for affordable homes, helping ensure families can live safely and securely.

Most recently, that impact was brought to life through a generous contribution from Warren Knox and Knox Roofing. Knox Roofing donated over $8,000 in labor and materials to complete a full roof replacement for a local home, providing a complete tear-off and installation of a new roof. This project, made possible in partnership with GAF, is more than a repair, it’s an investment in the long-term stability and wellbeing of a local family. These kinds of partnerships are at the heart of what we do.

When local businesses, municipalities, and community members come together, we’re able to extend our reach and deepen our impact in meaningful ways.

Thank you to Knox Roofing, GAF, and the City of Capitola for helping us continue to build stronger, safer communities, one home at a time.

🌱 Partner Spotlight: Housing Authority of Monterey County

Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay recently partnered with the Housing Authority of Monterey County’s Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program to share a clear pathway from rental assistance to homeownership.

The presentation highlighted the CalHome First-Time Homebuyer Program, outlining key eligibility requirements and how down payment assistance can help bridge the gap to affordable homeownership.

Designed to align with the financial goals FSS participants are already working toward, the session provided practical tools and a realistic roadmap for families taking the next step toward long-term stability.

These partnerships reflect the power of collaboration, bringing together local organizations, businesses, and community leaders to open doors and build stronger futures.

A Promise Kept: “This Will Be My Room”

For Alwa Gordon, homeownership is more than a milestone, it’s a promise fulfilled.

After experiencing housing instability as a child, Alwa made a commitment to give his future family the stability he never had. That promise was tested when the home he shared with his daughter was unexpectedly put up for sale.

Determined to create a different future, Alwa found an opportunity through a Measure O property and, with support from Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay’s Mortgage Assistance Program, was able to purchase a home of his own.

“I realized I had a chance to make good on the promise I made to myself and to my daughter.”

Today, that promise lives on in a place his daughter can truly call her own, a home filled with possibility, stability, and the foundation for a brighter future.
