April Happenings

Dear Friends,

Spring is here in the greenhouses! Two out of our three greenhouse are now filled with baby pansies, geraniums, fuchsias and so many other flowers and herbs, thanks to the hard work of Ellie, Erin, Becky and Abi. The tulips are coming up in our floral tunnel, and all of our seeds are sprouting. Before you know it our garden nursery will be filled with perennials, the walkways will be lined with colorful annuals, and we will be out planting and watering! In March we had two wonderful events where participants were able to create flowers at a time of the year when real flowers are not part of our daily landscape: Ali Haas led a workshop on creating art with dried flowers petals, and Sam Stytzer led a community event where participants painted larger-than-life sized flowers for an installation at the Keene Library. See below for photos of these events and read about Sam's event in Heather's blog.

Here's what's happening this month:

  • Abi has completed our new website! She did a beautiful job. Check it out here! www.eastbranchorganics.com
  • Heather is holding a free shrub pruning workshop on Sat. April 25. Find out more and sign up via the Events section below.
  • We will start deliveries of bulk goods (topsoil, compost & mulch) later in the month.
  • Our new wine club has been a fun way for everyone to discover new wines. Read about it below!

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Heather's Blog: Mercury in Retrograde

The first time I heard someone talk about Mercury in retrograde was probably close to twenty years ago. I recall thinking that it explained so much about the chaos that I was experiencing at the time, although I can’t recall which particular chaos I happened to be experiencing then. Since then, I’ve heard it batted around from time to time, and although I’ve never really studied the scientific implications of the celestial event (or even if it is considered to be a scientific celestial event), I have come to believe in a sort of loose way that it really does create a sense of chaos and....

Floral Bouquet CSA

It's time to consider becoming a member of our Floral Bouquet CSA! We offer memberships that allow you to pick up a bouquet every week during the season, every other week, once a month, or weekly (5 bouquets) during the month of either July or August. Membership helps us because it enables us to plan on how many flowers to plant and harvest, and it helps you because you can be assured that a special bouquet will be waiting for you!

Landscaping!

Do you have a project in mind for the 2026 season? Do you need some help with spring clean-ups or long-term maintenance? Our calendar is filling fast, so contact us now. The link below will take you to our landscaping request form.

What's New in the Wine & Spirits Shop?

"Wine Shopping" at Portfolio Tastings

March is a big month in the wine world: just as wine producers are releasing their newest vintages, wine distributors hold portfolio tastings where restaurants, sommeliers, and retails shops like us can taste wines and meet the winemakers themselves. I tasted so many delicious wines with wonderful stories that we will bring into the East Branch Organics Wine & Spirits Shop and our wine club this spring and summer. Meeting the winemakers can be so much fun! Pictured here are Iole Rabasco and Massimo of Vini Rabasco--a winery in Abruzzo where all the vineyards are farmed biodynamically and the wines are produced with indigenous yeasts and no SO2 is added. These are stunning wines and you might see some in the shop this summer! Meeting so many makers and tasting their wines was a reminder that the best wines are a dance between nature and the wonderful people who put their hearts and souls into the vineyards and the cellars. Cheers!

East Branch Organics Wine Club!

In March our wine club included two wines from the Loire Valley in France: the red selection was a Chinon Rouge (Cabernet Franc), and the white selection was a Muscadet. We had a fantastic response! I am excited about the wines we chose for April and can't wait for you to try them! Use the link below to learn about the wine club and to subscribe, or just stop by (or give us a call at 518-576-9043).

What's New in The Craft Beer Center?

Little Willow Brewing Co.

Fuzzy Sweater

IPA

This is a brand new beer from one of our favorite breweries: Little Willow Brewing Company. Fuzzy Sweater is a double dry hopped New England style IPA hopped with Zumo and Citra giving it notes of oranges and lime zest and zero bitterness.

Other Half

Deer Gauntlet

Imperial IPA

We've all been through the deer gauntlet and sometimes you need a good beer once you make it home safe! Deer Gauntlet is a hazy Imperial IPA brewed with Galaxy, Riwaka and Bru-1 giving it notes of passion fruit, pineapple, peach and green guava. Be safe out there!

Foam Brewers

Rainy Night in Soho

Irish Style Dry Stout

Rainy Night in Soho is an Irish style stout with the widget in the can to make it a nitro stout. Crack a cold one, let it settle for a second or two while you hear the nice soft hiss, then pour it hard and watch that cascade build into a pillowy head. Ireland by way of Vermont!

All are welcome to attend and the workshop is free, but please register as attendance is limited. 518-576-9043.
