The Red Herring Fiction Workshop has been meeting at the Channing-Murray Foundation on the University of Illinois campus every Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. since 1980. Writers at every level are welcome.

Join the  Champaign Urbana Symphony's String Quartet as they perform favorite melodies from Pinocchio , Cinderella , Snow White , Sleeping Beauty , Beauty and the Beast , The Little Mermaid , Coco , and Frozen along with projected pictures. The concert will feature Janice Lee and Eun Namkung (violin), Jieyeon Schleicher (viola), Barbara Hedlund (cello), and Ronald Hedlund (narrator).

Chanute Open House
Saturday, April 6 | 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
The MacFarlane-Hood Reading Room (First Floor)
The Champaign County Historical Archives is celebrating the history of Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul. We are displaying photographs, videos, and records from the base, as well as providing a space for former Chanuters to share stories about their experiences.

With the help of the Champaign-Urbana Radio Control Club, Cherry Alley will transform into a mini airplane runway featuring scale models of planes flown at the base. The University of Illinois Sousa Archives and Center for American Music will bring sights and sounds from the bases’ famous Air Force Band of the Midwest.

For the little Chanuters, we are providing coloring pages inspired by base records, and our first ever paper airplane creation station. Please join us for an exciting day filled with fun and food as we honor the millions of men and women who trained and worked at Chanute!

Papashoy plays old-time klezmer music in the style of the village bands of Yiddish Eastern Europe’s own corn country. Bring your dancing shoes for our assortment of lively tunes, and your hankies for some sweet, sad melodies. Surprises at every turn. Members are Frances Harris and Amanda Ramey (fiddles), Rob Sweedler (accordion), Rob Krumm (guitar), Charlie Harris (bass), and Cody Jensen (mandolin, xylophone).

Cat & Snack!

Cat lovers, mark your calendars for our 3rd annual Cat and Snack program! This year the wonderful volunteers of Catsnap will be bringing some kitty ambassadors for cat massages (as in you massage the cat obviously). We will be making cat crafts and cat toys, making our own delicious snack, and enjoying an endless loop of our favorite cat videos. This is an all ages, all skill level, drop in program. ME---OW!!
Intro to Circular Weaving
Saturday, April 20

The MacFarlane-Hood Reading Room (First Floor)

Come learn the basics of weaving on a circular loom and take home your very own weaving project. Experienced weaver and UIUC graduate student Monica Hoh will provide step-by-step instructions and go over basic weaving skills as well as some fun techniques to add texture to your design.

No experience necessary! All materials will be provided but registration is required and class size is limited.

Preservation Week: Preserving Your Family Heirlooms
Saturday April 27
2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
The Busey-Mills Reading Room (First Floor)
This workshop presented by  Jennifer Hain Tepper  will introduce attendees to the importance of preserving fragile family books, papers, and photographs and provide introductory information on how to do so. Topics that will be covered include general storage tips, problems to look for, examples of usual deterioration, and different types of possible treatments – both novice and professional. Participants are encouraged to bring an item from their family collection that they are interested in preserving for discussion with the group.
