Be one with the water. Let the water carry you. Find your balance and peace within the water, and once you do that you’ll be able to flow like a beautiful feather in the wind and flow like the ocean waves hitting the shore. I am learning how to become more of myself in the water. When I used to swim in the water, I always thought to myself I needed to get from “point a” to “point b” very quickly and in a matter of minutes , which is absolutely true in some cases but there is a great saying that I love so much that states “ Slow and steady wins the race.” To me in my eyes, this means that you don’t have to rush to get to the other side, it’s about taking the time to breathe, and taking the time to recuperate and readjust yourself, if need be.
That's exactly what I am learning when I go swimming in physical therapy. Swimming isn’t just about getting from one point to another ,it’s about controlling your breathing, relaxation, technique, and so much more. I am noticing the more I stay calm, breathing, and relaxed the more I am able to stay afloat and swim easily. Swimming isn’t just a fun activity for me, it’s therapy for me and so much more.
Swimming also helps me with my disability, swimming helps me because it helps me relax my muscles and my body.
The simplest things can make you happy! I am extremely proud of myself, because not only was I able to stay afloat on my own but I was also able to figure out a way to swim on my own without much help from my therapist, which felt amazing and incredible! Did I mention it’s been a long time since I’ve been in the water swimming?
