Aviation Museum Announces Rain Delay


Due to rain in the forecast, the Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum's April 15 Open Cockpit Day has been postponed until Saturday, April 22.

Mark your calendars to join us for springtime fun on the flightline 11am to 2pm. www.mdairmuseum.org

Prospect Hill Cemetery tour Postponed


Due to the forecast for thunderstorms on Saturday, Preservation Alliance of Baltimore County's Prospect Hill Cemetery tour has been postponed. 

We are working to reschedule the tour for a weekend day in May, we will update you as soon as possible.

Developing Your Family Tree with David Powell

April 14 - May 19 @ 1 - 2 PM

Location: Manor Mill | 2029 Monkton Rd, Monkton, MD 21111

Join David Powell in a workshop to start, build upon or refine your family tree.  This workshop is intended to be a hands-on experience in using on-line genealogy resources to further your research into your family history. Bring your own computers or other devices, or just use pencil and paper to fill in pre-defined pedigree charts. Sharing your successes with fellow workshop participants will enhance your overall understanding of genealogy and will hopefully be just plain fun.

 

This course begins April 14 but please email us if you are interested in taking the course from April 21-May 19.

Rockland Mills: A History

April 16 @ 2:00 - 3:30 PM

Location: Historical Society of Baltimore County | 9811 Van Buren Ln, Cockeysville, MD 21230

The Rockland farm, village and environs included two plantation manor houses dated 1706 and 1838. A water, and later steam-powered grist and calico mill was constructed in 1810 and rebuilt after a fire in 1857. Rockland Mills Village remains today the oldest continuously inhabited Mill Village in America.

Earth Day at the Essex Museum

April 22 @ 11 AM - 1 PM

Location: Heritage Society of Essex and Middle River | 516 Eastern Blvd, Essex, MD 21221

Join us for special activities geared towards celebrating Earth Day! Museum visitors can plant sunflower seeds and take them home to watch them grow! Kids will get to participate in a special craft activity and learn fun facts about gardening.

First Responders' Appreciation Day

May 6 @ 12 - 2 PM

Location: Heritage Society of Essex and Middle River | 516 Eastern Blvd, Essex, MD 21221

Join us for a special First Responders' Appreciation Day! We'll have emergency vehicles, including the MDTA armored vehicle, out front along with everyone's favorite fire engine, Purkey's Party Pumper! First Responders will be treated to lunch.

Essex Museum Speaker Series: Todd's Inheritance & the History of the North Point Peninsula

May 15 @ 7 PM

Location: Heritage Society of Essex and Middle River | 516 Eastern Blvd, Essex, MD 21221

Please join the volunteers from Todd's Inheritance Historic Site to learn about this exciting new museum and interpretive property located at 9000 North Point Rd. Edgemere, Maryland 21219. Enjoy an introduction to the history of the North Point Peninsula from early Native American presence, Todd family settlement in 1664, the War of 1812-Battle of North Point and more. Information about upcoming events, lectures and openings will be shared. We look forward to seeing you. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Visitors may tour the Museum after the event.

Aviation Museum's Family Fun Day

May 20 @ 11 AM - 3 PM

Location: The Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum | 701 Wilson Point Rd, Baltimore, MD 21220

This month's theme is Air Traffic Communications. Children of all ages will be shown signals used by air crews instructing aircraft where to go once they land. Sessions are 11:30am and 1pm. Exhibits and outdoor flightline tours and signal activities included with general admission fees.

Essex Museum

The Heritage Society of Essex and Middle River, Inc. is a non-profit organization staffed by volunteers whose goal is the preservation of the history of Essex and Middle River, Maryland. We understand the value of history and we want to share and preserve this community's heritage and pass it unto our children, grandchildren and all future generations to come. The Museum is open throughout the year for special events!

Manor Mill

This pre-revolutionary grist mill in Monkton has recently been restored and is open to the public Wednesday-Sunday 12-6.


Manor Mill houses a fine arts gallery featuring a juried selection of art with a new show every month, classes in fiber arts, painting, stained glass, ceramics, woodworking and welding and much more; live music featuring most every genre, including jazz, blues, classical, rock, americana and more; poetry; and yoga and meditation.

The Fire Museum

The Fire Museum of Maryland at 1301-R York Road, Lutherville is one of the largest Fire Museums in the Country.  With over 40 pieces of historic apparatus, a real fireboat, a working alarm office, and an interactive kids' Discovery Room, the Museum offers something for all ages.


The Fire Museum is open Saturdays from 10 - 4. Extended summer hours start in June.

Historical Society of Baltimore County

HSBC’s central purpose is to champion the history of the entire county for all members of our community and anyone with interest in our region’s story. For over 60 years we have worked to preserve history through our collection, exhibits, and public programs.


Our research library and exhibits are open Fridays and Saturdays from 10 – 2 and by appointment.

Who is BCHN?


The Baltimore County Heritage Network was formed in 2022, supported by a grant from the Maryland Center for History and Culture’s Miller History Fund. This collaboration of small history organizations around Baltimore County allows us to share our combined strengths. We hope to increase the sustainability and public awareness of our member organizations. More than that we hope to spread our love of our local history and its amazing stories to more people in our region.
