Director's Notes:
I just returned from Washington, D.C., where I joined forces with Missouri Bio, Washington University School of Medicine, the Danforth Plant Science Center and other organizations in the state to meet with our federal legislators. We discussed the importance of research in Missouri and how it could lead to cures and therapies and also is an important factor in economic development. We met with both Senator Blunt and Senator McCaskill, both are champions for NIH research funding.

In anticipation of our upcoming 5th Annual St. Louis WISE conference, we will spotlight one woman every month until November who exemplifies our WISE philosophy of not only excelling in science or entrepreneurship but in giving a hand-up to help other women achieve their goals. This month we highlight Dr. Betty Drees of Kansas City.

Warmest Regards,

Dena Ladd

Meet a Researcher
This month we are bringing Meet a Researcher back to our newsletter. Our researcher for April is Dr. Kareem Azab, Washington University School of Medicine, who is conducting a multi-disciplinary translational research with a focus on treatment and imaging of cancer. His lab works intensively on understanding the biological mechanisms of cancer progression and metastasis, development of novel drugs, targeted delivery of therapeutic agents (from nano-sized systems up to medical devices), and on developing patient-derived, tissue engineered pre-clinical models to study cancer.

Learn more about the work of Dr. Azab.
