Spring Time is Coming - Do our Pets get "Spring Fever"?

Pets do get "Spring Fever," it is an experience in pets that is a response to the changing weather. While we humans also experience spring fever with allergies or the common cold, pets are strongly affected by their senses being much more sensitive to changes in smell and temperature. Your pets may become confused and their behavior may change. Both dogs and cats can become more excitable or agitated. Spring fever can increase your pet's excitement and increase their chance of running into busy streets, escaping from their homes and overheating. Strangers may make your pet agitated. This experience happens every year so learning to recognize it in your tail wagger and methods to deal with it will make for a harmonious transition. Please click on the link below to learn ideas of how to deal with this behavior change.

--Safety Tip of the Month:

Canine Pool & Water Safety

Does your pup know how to swim? Have you ever tried putting your pup in the pool to see if they can swim? More importantly does your fur baby know how to get out of the pool if they fall in? It is very important to familiarize our tail waggers with pool and water hazards, and to make sure that your water environment is safe for you and your dog. There are various ways to keep your pup safe around water including the use of life jackets, ramps and ladders, and collars that will sound an alarm if your pet falls in the water. Remember - pets should always be supervised around water!

Water Safety Tips

--Dog of the Month - Lily Belle

Lily Belle never had a chance, until now. One year ago she was brought into a kill shelter, 8 years old, nearly blind, totally matted and covered with fleas. Fortunately she was adopted, saving her from death. But, after only a few months her new owner was homeless and called us to take her.

She arrived at our shelter on Good Friday, covered with fleas. We were obliged to take her in. She had nowhere else to go. We discovered that she was walking into walls. She’s now blind. This beautiful sweet little Shih Tzu girl deserved to be cherished for all her life. How did she fall into the wrong hands for 8 long years?

In our 28 years of rescue we’ve always found room for one more, especially the most neglected . Lily Belle is no exception. Sadly, taking in dogs in her condition costs a lot of money, in her case beginning with a rush visit to our ophthalmologist to see if there’s any hope for any vision.

Taking in young healthy very adoptable dogs is easy. Taking in dogs like Lily Belle is what rescue is really all about. It’s the right thing to do, but comes with a great financial burden, and the terrible responsibility to screen prospective adopters to ensure her future safety and happiness.

Your generous donation will help give Lily Belle a third chance to be loved and cared for the way she should have been all along. Please donate, she’s counting on you. We desperately need your help to keep our doors open for dogs like Lili Belle.

Bonded Pairs:

Bonded pairs are two animals that are strongly attached to one another and ideally should be adopted together to the same home. While many animals like each other and live together harmoniously, they are not necessarily a bonded pair. We have so many bonded pairs that we will not separate. The bonded pairs came to us together, alone & frightened. We cannot imagine breaking up that love and security. Please consider adopting a bonded pair, or donating to help keep our bonded pairs together.

It is so rewarding to see the change in each dog once fed, treated and loved! Won't you help us be a part of their success.... Click the link below to donate.
