Business Excellence Awards

Nominations have opened for the 2023 Business Excellence Awards (BEAs). The 2023 BEAs recognize outstanding local businesses and nonprofits who work to benefit both our local economy and the wellbeing of our community. Community members are encouraged to submit their nominations to recognize and celebrate local hardworking organizations. BEA winners will be determined by judges from outside the area based on how the nominee exemplifies the award criteria.

National Volunteer Week

24 million Canadians give their time through formal or informal types of volunteering, contributing close to 5 billion volunteer hours per year.

Volunteers in Mulmur mentor our children, support those feeling isolated, beautify our green spaces, and fundraise for our charitable organizations.

Volunteers in Mulmur have stepped up during the COVID-19 pandemic to support families, friends, neighbours, and strangers, people standing up to systemic racism, and people sharing insights on how to create a more just and equitable society.

Mulmur’s volunteers are individuals, families, workers, retirees, community members of all ages and backgrounds.

The collective result of the work done by our city’s volunteers is that Mulmur is a more desirable place to live; and volunteers serve on Boards, help host community festivals, stock shelves at food banks, deliver meals to seniors, help in schools, plant community gardens; and organizations in Mulmur that rely on volunteers are the fundamental backbone of what helps to make our community thrive.

Mother's Day Contest

Mother's Day is next month and we want to hear about what makes your mom special!

Tell us in a few sentences why you love your mom and send it to [email protected] along with a photo of you and your mom, or just your mom. We will be highlighting a few moms a week on Social Media until Mother’s Day Sunday.

Your mom’s name will be entered into a draw to win a $100 gift certificate to Granny Taught Us How.

One lucky moms name will be drawn on May 12th and can be picked up before Mothers Day.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING

Proposed Amendment to Development Charges By-law

The Corporation of the Township of Mulmur will be holding a Public Meeting pursuant to the Development Charges Act, 1997, to consider an amendment to the Development Charges By-law. This Notice is provided in accordance with Section 12 of the Development Charges Act.

The Public Meeting will be held at 9:05 a.m. on

May 3^rd at the Township Office.

Copies of the draft by-law and Development Charges Background Study are available for review at Township Office and on the Township’s website. Anyone wishing to address Council with respect to the proposal may do so at the Public Meeting. Persons unable to attend the Public Meeting may provide written comments up until the time of the Public Meeting.

Purpose of the By-law

Development Charges are municipal fees levied against new development to finance the growth related capital costs associated with meeting the service requirements of the new development. The purpose of Development Charges is to ensure that new growth pays for capital costs associated with servicing new development without placing a burden on existing taxpayers. The proposed By-law would remove the exemption for second detached dwellings in accordance with legislative changes.

This By-law affects all of the lands within the Township of Mulmur.

"Women of Ontario Say No"

On April 5, Council welcomed former Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne, who presented on behalf of the group “Women of Ontario Say No”, with respect to Bill 5 to stop harassment of local leaders. Wynne spoke to Bill 5’s actions to require elected officials to comply with the violence and harassment policies of the township they represent, to permit integrity commissioners to apply to a court to have an elected official removed for violation and restrict immediate subsequent re-election.

The Mulmur Township Post-Secondary School Grant Program is intended to recognize outstanding Mulmur students who will be pursuing post-secondary education and/or training. Two one-time $500 scholarships will be considered for students entering a university, college, or trade/apprentice program.
