SUN SUMMER/FALL 2022 SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED
6 NONSTOP CITIES NOW SERVED IN SUMMER TOO!

The SUN summer/fall schedule has been finalized and we are excited to announce that the United Chicago (ORD) nonstop flight will be extended into the summer season. For the past three years SUN has had ORD service in the winter, and now, with travel demand back on the rise, United is adding 2 weekly flights on Saturday & Sunday from late June through Labor Day - a total of 22 flights for the season. The extended service to this key United Airlines hub will provide additional one-stop connections from SUN to hundreds of eastern US and international markets.

In addition, United LAX and SFO service will be extended to run 2 times per week through late September instead of ending on Labor Day.

The Delta SLC, United DEN and Alaska SEA flights will continue to operate year-round.

And other exciting news: Alaska Airlines will start flying their SEA route with E175 regional jets beginning September 8, replacing the older Q400 turboprop planes!

SUN SPRING FLIGHTS - AIRPORT CLOSURE
Most flights ended for the winter season but a few remain ongoing in April
SUN airport will close April 18 - May 17 for runway construction.

APRIL SUN FLIGHTS

  • SEA flights will run 2x week (Sun-Thur) March 31- April 17
  • SLC flights will run daily through April 17

BOISE AIRPORT PARKING INFO

Passengers traveling to BOI airport this spring when SUN is closed should note that the terminal parking capacity is LIMITED due to construction, and all travelers are encouraged to check parking lot volumes and space availability before driving to the airport.

To assist with BOI traveler parking needs, the BOI airport has opened an Economy Parking Lot, which requires a shuttle ride to the airport, at Victory and Orchard (5600 W Victory Road). Passengers who park in this lot can take the free airport shuttle no matter what time of day or night.

Make sure you allow enough time to utilize this option as it will take longer than parking at the terminal. Details and Map HERE

SUN 2022 PASSENGER TRAFFIC STRONG IN FEBRUARY

February had strong passenger numbers, with average load factor of 87%, and passenger enplanements up 46% over 2021, according to a report from Friedman Memorial Airport (SUN). YTD enplanements are up 62% over 2021 with all SUN airlines experiencing increased passenger travel demand.

Compared to Jan-Feb YTD 2020 (pre-pandemic), enplanements are up 13%.
WINTER DIVERSION BUSING: AVAILABLE IF NEEDED
SUN DIVERSION BUSING SERVICE RUNS THRU APRIL 15
While we have had only a handful of weather-related flight diversions again this winter due to the new landing approach procedure in place at SUN, there may still be times when flights can't land and busing is needed. This diversion busing service, provided by the airlines and airport, will continue to be offered with COVID-19 protocols in effect for passenger health and safety.

Alaska, Delta Connection and United Express Airlines offer direct service into Sun Valley’s Friedman Memorial Airport, putting skiers and riders within 15 miles of the fabled Sun Valley ski slopes from a variety of major markets. Nonstop flights from Chicago, Denver, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle are available. Flying in makes lots of sense if you don’t live in Idaho or relatively to this World Class, historic resort."

Masks Still Required on Planes, at Airports
Federal law requires passengers to wear a mask when traveling, including travel by commercial air. All SUN airlines, United, Delta and Alaska, require face masks for all passengers, crew and employees. TSA requires all passengers in line for screening wear a mask and masks required for anyone in the SUN passenger terminal area.
