Plans for Skyview Plaza are underway and include 100,000 square feet of office space in four floors above a 138-room Cambria hotel. The site is located south of the Social Security Administration at 3415 E. Frontage Road. The developer, Zons Development, plans to break ground in 2020 and wrap up construction by early 2021. MORE
Pu blix is Coming to Westshore
Westshore residents who participated in the latest Westshore District-wide Survey stated they would like to have more grocery options in Westshore. They'll be happy to hear that Publix Super Markets recently demolished the former Sports Authority across from WestShore Plaza to build the new 35,966-square-foot grocery store. MORE
Atlanta-based Cousins Properties and Dallas-based TIER REIT Inc. are merging in an all-stock deal. The combined company will operate under the Cousins name. Cousins owns the four Corporate Center buildings near International Plaza as well as Harborview Plaza and The Pointe on Rocky Point. MORE
The Bromley Companies' Midtown Tampa, the 20-plus acre mixed-use development at Interstate 275 and North Dale Mabry Highway, will begin vertical construction this quarter. The entire project - 1.8 million square feet - will be built in a single phase. Bromley is aiming to have the development wrapped up by early 2021, before Tampa hosts its fifth Super Bowl. MORE
Bloomin' Brands is using its most successful restaurant to spinoff a new fast-casual chain: Aussie Grill by Outback. The Tampa-based company will begin testing its new burger-and-sandwich-focused eatery at International Plaza's food court in late April. It will be Aussie Grill's American debut. Bloomin' opened locations in Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong earlier this year. MORE
Dallas-area based  Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar's mix of craft cocktails and farm-to-fork dishes is the latest addition to the social scene at International Plaza. The nearly 8,000-square-foot location at Bay Street has seating for approximately 250, including a patio and bar with room for 40. There is also a private dining area with a 46-person capacity. MORE

City advancing Westshore area projects
Drivers in the Westshore area will notice smoother roads and more sidewalks soon. The City of Tampa is planning to resurface many of the streets between West Shore Blvd. and Lois Ave., north of Kennedy Blvd. and south of I-275 in 2020. Rocky Point Dr. is also planned for 2020. The City recently completed resurfacing on Himes Ave. between Martin Luther King Blvd. and Hillsborough Ave. The resurfacing projects are in addition to planned pedestrian improvements on Fig St., Grady Ave., Gray St., Hubert Ave., Lois Ave. and Spruce St. For more information on City projects visit their transportation improvements page and resurfacing page.
FDOT starts public participation for I-275 improvements north of downtown
Commuters and employers who rely on I-275 north of downtown to get to Westshore are encouraged to participate in the public hearing for improvements on I-275 between Martin Luther King Blvd. and Bearss Ave. FDOT is proposing to add a lane in each direction and widen the inside shoulder for transit use. Take the Tampa Bay Commuters Pledge To Improve Your Commute
From now until June 2019, commuters around Tampa Bay will pledge to commute to work through public transit, biking, carpooling, walking, and teleworking. Commuters traveling for work or school to/from Hillsborough and Pinellas counties can take the pledge for any mode at any time. Weekly prize winners will be drawn from the mode of the month pledges (Apr: Carpool, May: Walk, June: Telework/Compressed Work Week), announced on the website and via the Bike/Walk Tampa Bay Twitter and Facebook page. Tampa runoff election April 23
Tampa residents will vote in the City runoff election on April 23, but vote by mail ballots have already landed in mailboxes. Voters will select the Mayor and two citywide Council seats. Voters in parts of Central and East Tampa will also select the District 5 City Council member.

Early voting begins April 14 and ends on April 20. Vote by mail ballots must be received at the Supervisor of Elections office by 7 pm on Election Day to count. Check out the Hillsborough Supervisor of Elections for early voting locations and your polling precinct.
Hillsborough County is conducting a countywide survey to assess resident satisfaction in key areas including local economy, public safety, life enrichment and recreational opportunities, self-sufficiency programs for individuals and families, and high-quality community assets. Feedback from the anonymous questionnaire will assist county administration in determining priorities for the community and evaluating how Hillsborough County compares with other jurisdictions across the nation. Residents can make their voice heard during the online survey period starting April 8. MORE
