Believe it or not, about 40% of American adults are obese. What's the definition of obesity? A body mass index of 25.0 is considered overweight and 30.0 or higher is obese. How do you figure BMI? It's a simple equation:

BMI = (weight (lb) ÷ height2 (in)) * 703.

Worldwide scientists and physicians are pursuing solutions to the COVID-19 pandemic. One major finding is that obesity is a serious factor and may triple the risk of hospitalization for patients with COVID-19. Approximately 78% of people hospitalized with COVID-19 who needed a ventilator or died from the disease were overweight or obese.

And so the saying goes, "We are what we eat." While still working from home we could use commuting time to make healthy meals. Try new recipes. Shop for healthy foods. Know what ingredients go into each dish. Lose a few pounds and enjoy better health.

Did You Know?

Long-term care provides assistance to people who are no longer able to live independently. This may be the result of a chronic illness like diabetes, a disability caused by a stroke, cognitive impairment such as Alzheimer's disease or simply growing old and becoming frail. It encompasses a variety of services including medical care provided by medical professionals and non-medical care provided by health care aides.

Long-term care assists people with activities of daily living which are defined as bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, continence and transferring. It also assists people who need supervision or prompting due to cognitive impairment. Designed as custodial care long-term care is very different from traditional healthcare or Medicare which are curative or rehabilitative in design.
