On April 22nd I will receive the Chicago Bar Association 2025 Vanguard Award. This award recognizes attorneys who make the law and legal profession more accessible and reflective of the community. Typically, recipients are in practice at least 20 years and the Award is reflective of an attorney’s engagement over the course a career. I especially thank the Chicago Bar Association and the Decalogue Society of Lawyers for this recognition.
As my father and grandfather were lawyers, my childhood dream was to become a lawyer. I could never have imagined the deeper meaning a career in law would take on. Having the privilege of helping people, being part of a community, grounding myself in justice, and having the ability to contribute something greater than myself.
This award reminds me that there is no better dream than assisting and doing right by another person.
This award reinvigorates my commitment to using my experience, my legal skills, and my life-long dedication to help build a system where fairness to all is an absolute right. Dignity and fairness in the law and in our society must be instilled in our education systems, and communities everywhere. Being honored among great lawyers who have come before me is humbling.
This honor means a great deal to me and I thank my wife, my parents, my law partners and staff, friends, clients, and colleagues who I all know stand for what this award means, and for without whom this award would not be possible.
