Long Branch High School

Marianne Ploskonka JSRC Special Olympics Event Coordinator, is still in search of volunteers to help with escorting athletes, scoring, timing, awards and other tasks associated with the event.

Volunteers should plan on being at the high school by 8:30 a.m. The meet is usually over by 2 or 3 p.m.. If you can't be there by 8:30 a.m. or can't stay the entire time, that's fine. Just let us know ahead of time so we can be sure we have appropriate coverage.
Volunteer  Online registration. Please sign up. If you are coming with family or friends, please make sure everyone is signed up so we have an accurate count.
Parents: if your children require community service hours, this is an excellent opportunity for them. Please answer " yes" for the community service letter question when you sign them up. Send-off for Mark & Charlotte Griggs - April 13
Our long-standing HASHaTHON race directors, Mark & Charlotte Griggs, will be leaving NJ at the end of April.
They will be heading out west to Arizona, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon for the summer and fall, where they will be working as park rangers. It should be an amazing adventure!
Mark and Charlotte have devoted may years to the Club and Mark had been dedicated to keeping the  Tuesday run in Long Branch alive through construction, hurricanes, superstorms and more.
Best of luck and safe travels on this new adventure.
See you when you're back in town!
Check out the photos from the going away party at Bar A

Speed Training / Speed Class
Starts Tuesday, May 8, 2018.
Want to run faster? Improve your 5K or 5 mile time? Or just get some good workouts? This is a fun group. Not too hard but you will definitely feel it.
It's a six-week program meeting once a week at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays at a location in Spring Lake/Wall area.
A good intermediate course for those who have already run a 5K and would like to improve finish times.
The course includes a combination of workouts as appropriate to the group: strides, intervals, fartleks, hill repeats, track workouts.  All levels of ability are welcome to participate.  Completion of the course will make you a stronger and faster runner and hopefully set you up to set a personal best.  Participants in past classes have improved their pace significantly over the course of the class.
Cost is $60 for Six Week program

Meet our New Members
Meet new member Rachel Sigler
I am brand new to New Jersey so I am still trying to find my go-to running spot (recommendations welcomed!). Back home in Virginia, I spent a lot of time running down Monument Avenue in Richmond. My runs usually range between three and seven miles, unless I am training for a half marathon.
I would much rather do a slow and steady 5-mile run than a quick mile-speed is just not my thing. My half marathon PR was 1:57 during my first NYC Half. My goal is to tackle a full marathon before I turn 30.
I am a Global HR Manager for AgileOne. When I'm not working or running I enjoy hiking, traveling, trying new restaurants, and attending Yappy Hour with my dachshund, Rigby.
I look forward to meeting everyone at the next meeting!

Meet new member Robin Roberts
I am new to the area and to the club so here is some info on me: my name is  Robin Roberts (no relation to either the baseball player or the GMA host). Sorry!
I have been a runner most of my adult life (58 years old now). About five years ago, I (finally!) learned to swim and started doing triathlons.
After three years of pretty intense triathlon acing and training, I fell off the fitness wagon and am now clawing my way back to my  athletic self. I have raced all distances from 3K to the marathon plus XC, track and adventure races and really love racing the 10-mile to Half Marathon distance the best.
My job is in the city - "running" a healthcare ad agency, and I recently moved to Atlantic Highlands from the City.
I'm looking forward to meeting some of you soon at a Sunday Runday event!

Meet new member Joan Goodman
I did my first 5k a couple of years ago at the age of 61. I am much more of a walker than runner.  I was as never an athlete of any sort in any sport, but have found a new passion in getting outdoors to walk and try to better my pace with each race. I still work part-time but am hoping to be able to meet up with JSR for some of your walks.
Looking forward to meeting in person,

Meet new member  Lauren Yesler
I find running to be invigorating, and enjoy testing my endurance. I will begin with weeknight group runs - most likely Long Branch, Belmar, and Ocean Grove.
5k races are what I am accustomed to running, though look forward to advancing to longer distances over time
My occupation is marketing and design, I also waitress for extra income. I am l ooking forward to meeting as many people as I can, make new friends, and get outdoors now that winter is almost over . . .
