For many of our neighbors, a leaking roof, a broken heater, or a missing ramp isn't just an inconvenience, it's a crisis that directly impacts their ability to live in their home. MHO's Essential Home Repair (EHR) program exists for meet people when they need it most, because everyone deserves to feel secure in the place they call home.

In 2025, EHR served over 230 people across our community, replacing 49 roofs, completing 25 plumbing projects, building 21 new ramps, and installing heating units in 19 homes. In 2026, we're already 40+ repairs in and counting. Yet behind every number is a person. A family. A home that now feels safe again. Essential repairs preserve affordable housing, prevent displacement, and give people the stability they need to thrive.

Could EHR help you or someone you know? If your home needs critical repairs, reach out to learn more about eligibility and how to apply. Call us at 828-254-4030 x138, email us at EHR@mtnhousing.org, or click the link below.

MHO is pleased to announce a $100,000 gift from Montreat Presbyterian Church (MPC) in support of Starlight Cove, MHO’s new affordable homeownership development underway in Black Mountain, NC. This gift will directly support the construction of 20 new single-family homes during Phase One of the development, helping make homeownership a reality for families across the region.

The partnership was announced to the MPC congregation by Pastor Keith Grogg on Easter Sunday. The substantial gift reflects the church’s deep and ongoing commitment to the people of the Swannanoa Valley.

MHO's Finance Team has a new addition! Meet Silvia, who brings a background in corporate accounting and a passion for mission-driven work:

“I recently joined MHO’s Finance Team as a Financial Analyst and am thrilled to bring my skill set into the nonprofit space! After working primarily in accounting within the corporate restaurant industry, I’ve long been driven to transition into mission-focused work and am excited to contribute my skills to advancing affordable housing. I recently earned my Master’s in Accounting from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and have called Asheville home for 17 years. When I’m not at work, you’ll likely find me at a Pilates class or out on a hiking trail, spending time with friends and family—and always with a coffee in hand.”

Welcome to the team, Silvia!

MHO was thrilled to once again be named the beneficiary of AVL Top 100, presented by Dwello Mortgage Advisors - an annual celebration of Buncombe County's top-producing realtors and agencies hosted on March 27th! It's no surprise that so many of WNC's leading real estate and lending professionals are passionate advocates for affordable housing. Since its inception, AVL Top 100 has raised over $75,000 supporting MHO's full suite of affordable housing services. This year's event was no exception, raising $5,000! We are so grateful to be part of something this special. A huge thank you to Kim Winters, the Dwello team, and to every donor and sponsor who made this year's event another one to remember.
