Latest News - April 2025

Dear Friends,

SSKP Volunteers inspire me every day!

Circumstances arose in March that required extra "hands on deck" and I had the opportunity to work side-by-side with many of our incredible volunteers. March 11 was our monthly "meal site delivery" day when food and supplies are transported to our nine community meals from Madison to Chester. My heart was willing to fill in as the truck driver, but I also wished for someone to make the journey with me. Two volunteers jumped in and spent the day with me ensuring that all of our meal sites received the necessary inventory (and ensuring that we avoided short underpasses!). My heart is filled with joy every time I think about that day!

Days like this happen every week at SSKP. Our mission to share food and fellowship are primary and we cannot do this alone! We need one another! I am grateful for each and every volunteer connected with SSKP. You make a difference! You inspire me!

Thank you for being you!

With gratitude,

Amy

Join the Firehouse Food Drive on Sat., April 12th

For the 13th year, shoreline fire departments will host a one-day food drive on Saturday, April 12th to collect non-perishable food for SSKP from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Fire departments participating include Old Saybrook, Essex, Westbrook, North Madison, Chester, Clinton, Deep River, and Killingworth.

Teams will be collecting donations at their firehouses as well as local grocery stores including Robert’s Food Center in North Madison, Stop & Shop in Old Saybrook and Clinton, Big Y in Old Saybrook and Clinton, DG Market in Essex, and Walmart in Old Saybrook.

In addition, non-perishable food donations can be brought to Mirsina’s Restaurant in Old Saybrook, the Parthenon Diner in Old Saybrook, Sal's Pizza & Pasta in Old Saybrook, as well as the Essex Savings Bank in Old Saybrook and Staples in Old Saybrook.

This incredible shoreline effort is one of our largest annual food drives - so please support our fire departments on Saturday, April 12th!

Thank You, Liberty Bank Foundation

We are excited to announce that Liberty Bank Foundation has generously awarded a $5,000 grant to SSKP. These funds will purchase food that will help fill the shelves at our five food pantries.

Every year Liberty Bank Foundation provides funds to SSKP with generous grants and special fundraising campaigns with community members.

We are so grateful for all their continued support!

Please Support the Spring Appeal

Spring is here and so is our 2025 Spring Appeal!

Thank you to everyone who has already made a donation this spring. Your gifts help sustain us at a time of year when need remains high, but income is often lower.

If you haven't supported the Spring Appeal yet, please make a gift today. You can help assure all our neighbors have access to the food they need now and throughout the year.

Thank you!

We Appreciate Our Volunteers

Did you know that April is Volunteer Appreciation Month?

We're giving thanks for all the amazing SSKP Volunteers who make our mission possible! Every day they do so much - cooking and serving food, welcoming guests, sharing hospitality at a meal, bagging and distributing groceries, setting up and breaking down at our pantries and meals, serving on our Board, sorting donated food, organizing food drives, and always going above and beyond for SSKP!
