April is a busy month with numerous activities, including the regular opening of our youth baseball, softball and soccer seasons. Highlighted below are some of the April events and activities that may be of interest to many of you.
The Center on the Lake opened March 6. The new center is an impressive facility, used regularly by all of the members. The center has added over 250 members, since it opened. If you have not stopped by for a tour, you are welcome to do that. If you are over 50, you are welcome to join. The center offers many programs to enhance your over-all health and activity levels.
The annual Easter Egg Hunt will take place on Saturday, April 15 at 9:00 a.m. at the Rolling Oaks Sports Complex. This annual event allows children in three age divisions the chance to collects eggs containing prize coupons. The Maumelle Parks and Recreation Department, Maumelle Youth Council, Fred and Mary Peyton and Allison Peyton Winningham sponsor this event.
The First United Methodist Church along with other churches in Maumelle will host the annual Easter Sunrise Service at Lake Willastein Amphitheater at 6:45 a.m. on April 16. Please make plans to attend this community-wide worship service.
Spring Cleanup will be April 17-27. Maumelle Public Works will be picking up bulky items free of charge during this time; however, there are some exceptions. Please visit the city's website for more details.
Youth Community Impact Showcase hosted by the Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce and the Maumelle Lions' Club will be April 22, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Jess Odom Community Center. This inspirational event will highlight service and environmental projects that highlight how students are contributing to the improvement of our city! Maumelle residents and students who attend Maumelle schools in grades K-12 are encouraged to register for this event. Each grade level category will have unique criteria for evaluation that is specific to age and advancement. Teams or individuals may submit a project. Registration deadline is April 14. The Maumelle City Council will be appointing members to the Maumelle Civil Service Commission and a representative to the Academics Plus Charter School Board at the April 17 meeting. The Maumelle Facility Board will also be selecting a board member this month. For more information on how to apply, see notices at
Chick-fil-A will be breaking ground on their site this month with a planned grand opening this fall. U.S. Pizza opened their new facility on Maumelle Boulevard with large crowds frequenting the new location.
Central Arkansas Water (CAW) will close the westbound lane of Country Club Parkway between Village Way and Sologne Forest Drive on a segmented basis during April. This lane closure is necessary to facilitate water line construction for the Maumelle transmission main project. Two-way traffic will be maintained, utilizing the eastbound lane of Country Club Parkway per a barricade plan approved by Maumelle Public Works. The westbound traffic lane will reopen after the new water main is installed and the temporary street surface repairs are completed. The permanent street repairs will follow later in the year after completion of successful testing of the entire Maumelle water transmission main.
