What do M&M candies and our volunteers have in common? There's nothing sweeter to brighten your day! Read on to find out what we did to give back to these Magnificent and Marvelous "Auxilians" during Volunteer Week. Plus find out the grandmother's words that inspired one Rockbridge family medicine doctor to join the Foundation's Founders' Circle with a generous donation. PEACH season has arrived early in some parts of Georgia. Learn which 12 DeKalb Medical departments are receiving more than $16,000 in PEACH Grant Awards for improvements. And when you see him in the community, please be sure to give a warm welcome to our newest Foundation Board member, Tom Jollay, CPA. We look forward to the impact his wisdom and  "we can do it!" attitude will have on the DeKalb Medical Foundation!

April is National Volunteer Month

We celebrated our volunteers ALL WEEK!

There is no sweeter sight than to see a bright smile from a volunteer or that beautiful bouquet of flowers to brighten your day during a stay in the hospital. Our patients love our volunteers... and sometimes all it takes is just a simple smile to lift their spirits so their hearts feel a little happier and they heal a little faster.

Our volunteers' sweetness was returned in so many ways during Volunteer Appreciation Week. To celebrate their magnificent, marvelous selves, we handed out M&M candies and had a week filled with sweet and savory events like an Auxiliary luncheon or two, a special speaker, a delicious breakfast and more. It was our time to shower our volunteers with a little sugar and we had fun sweetening their days!

Rockbridge Family Medicine Physician Joins Founders' Circle

Physicians in Philanthropy Spotlight:
Dr. Tina-Ann Kerr Thompson

Giving back to her community is a philosophy that
Dr. Tina-Ann Kerr Thompson was raised with almost as soon as she could walk. "My grandmother used to tell me that to whom much is given, much is required," shares Thompson who recently joined the DeKalb Medical Foundation's Founders' Circle Physicians in Philanthropy giving club. Thompson's love of medicine and philanthropy began more than 20 years ago as a volunteer in a pediatric unit in a hospital in Connecticut. "Being a doctor is a gift and a privilege, and I am extending that gift to as many patients as possible so they can access good care at DeKalb Medical."

DeKalb County Native Joins Foundation Board
Volunteering is about being better together!

Tom Jollay's work and life have been lived with the belief we are all

Stone Mountain resident, Tom Jollay

better together- a mindset that motivates him to give generously to his community. As a new member of the DeKalb Medical Foundation Board of Trustees, Tom Jollay, CPA will bring more than 30 years of business consulting and strategic planning expertise to his leadership position.

Jollay, who is a partner with Bennett Thrasher, says he has watched DeKalb Medical successfully grow over the past fifty years and he plans to be an active part of its growth in the coming years. "I like to volunteer for organizations where I know I can have an immediate impact on my community," shares Jollay.  Jollay's family physician was a DeKalb Medical doctor and when his wife suffered a heart attack, she received life-saving expert care at DeKalb Medical, care experiences he holds dear and wants others to know they can trust.
