EQUINE NUTRITION WORKSHOP

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County and the Watershed Agricultural Council are hosting a Horse Nutrition Workshop. Your horse’s health, well-being, and performance starts with nutrition. Testing your hay is a critical first step to getting the nutrition right.

Ofelia Del Principe of Whitfield Equine Nutrition will review equine nutrition and explain how it influences the horses health, well being and performance.

Cassy Streeter of Dairy One Equi-Analytical will explain the value of testing, testing options, how to submit a sample, and how you get the most value from the test results.

SHEEP AND GOAT FAMACHA WORKSHOP

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County and SUNY Delhi are collaborating to provide a certification on using the FAMACHA technique to estimate Barberpole Worm burdens in small ruminant animals. We will start with a comprehensive presentation on parasite biology and current parasite control strategies. Participants will learn how to prepare and fecal sample for analysis using the microscope. Bring your own sheep or goat fecal sample. Class concludes with practicing FAMACHA technique on live sheep and goats.

NOBODY GETS LEFT IN THE WOODS EVENT

April 17, 2026, 9:00 AM- 12:00 PM

Forest work can be intense with rough terrain, weather, and no cell service. Are you prepared? What’s in your vest? Hear from a panel of professional foresters about the necessities we often overlook when entering the forest for a day’s work. We’ll begin in the classroom with light refreshments and a presentation. Afterwards, we’ll walk in the Lennox Model Forest to discuss further awareness for woodland work.

Learn about the new initiative “Nobody Gets Left in the Woods”, a network of foresters working towards awareness of the challenges being forest workers, maintaining a safe workday, and positive mental health. Too often, we mourn the loss of forest workers. Let’s come together as an industry and make sure everyone makes it out of the woods. SAF Credit Available.

2025 ANNUAL REPORT

Throughout 2025, the Watershed Agricultural Council continued to deliver meaningful results across the Watershed by supporting regional agriculture and forestry, as well as protecting water quality. Renewed investments are helping participants navigate change while keeping working lands productive and resilient. While traditional dairy farming remains a cornerstone of the region, noteworthy shifts in land ownership and farm operations are underway, including transitions from dairy to beef and growing interest from next-generation farmers.These changes reflect evolving economic conditions and exciting opportunities for innovation across the region.
