April is Arab American Heritage Month
Dear Friends,

Spring is a time of growth and connection, and as we enter another season under the shadow of Covid-19, we do so with optimism about the future. NEAAO is working hard to make sure our community members have access to vaccines. We are engaging youth and elders in new programming. And we are collaborating with community-based organizations across the state to find creative ways to meet emerging needs. Our community of New Mainers and long time residents is resilient, and we are honored to be included in Maine's response to challenges posed by the pandemic and a changing economy. We wish you all continued health, and a beautiful Spring!

NEAAO Wins Harvard Pilgrim
Healthy Youth, Healthy Communities grant for SOAR youth program
NEAAO is honored to be one of only six New England organizations chosen to receive a grant from Harvard Pilgrim for our new youth program Halaq, or in English, SOAR--Students for Opportunity, Advocacy and Respect. Through this leadership program local teens will launch a regional youth needs assessment survey, compile results, and create innovative programs in response. NEAAO will collaborate with the National Center for Arab American Philanthropy to teach teens about ways to raise funds in support of programs.
NEAAO's RV becomes mobile vaccination unit
If you want to encourage people to get vaccinated, make sure you create a cheerful, positive environment. Our Together Home is Here RV provided just that on April 2 in Augusta. In partnership with Capital Area New Mainers Project and Kennebec Valley Community Action Network, NEAAO's "vaccine mobile" ensured that community members had a private, welcoming space to get vaccinated. Follow our Facebook page for all the latest news about future NEAAO RV pop-up clinics.
