| | What happens when two middle schoolers step up to lead an entire club on their own? Meet Peyton U. and Evan C., 8th graders who went from joining a club they didn't really know anything about, to running every leadership role at their school’s Hands4Hope club, and they're doing it together. Along the way, they’ve discovered new perspectives on their community, built confidence, and are already setting their sights on high school leadership. Their journey is full of growth, teamwork, and a few surprises you won’t expect. | | Hands4Hope Club Service-Learning Projects | | |

| | Meet Principal Doug Shupe of Camerado Springs Middle School (pictured here with our Youth Spotlights!), a longtime Hands4Hope champion known for his creativity, generosity, and unwavering support (yes, even participating in Endless Summer Beach Party rescue scenarios), a school principal who truly goes all-in on empowering students to lead. From opening his campus on weekends for Hands4Hope events to championing student-led service, his belief in youth potential has helped students grow into confident, empathetic leaders. Discover why he says programs like Hands4Hope bring out "sides of students that might otherwise stay hidden," and why he’s spent over a decade saying "yes" to the Hands4Hope mission. | | Save the date: Big Day of Giving is coming on Thursday, May 7! On this day, the entire Sacramento region comes together to support the nonprofit community. We have some exciting things planned, including special youth-adult partnerships that allow leaders to tell their stories in new ways. There are prizes, donor matches, and a unique energy that cannot be beat. Mark your calendar! | | Empty Bowls Dinner a Success! | | |
Nearly 500 guests of all ages came together for this year’s Empty Bowls Dinner, and the result was incredible. This was the third year that the event was planned by a youth-led Hands4Hope Committee with the support of dedicated Adult Mentors and a Hands4Hope Staff Mentor. From handmade bowls and live music to a powerful message about hunger, it was an event that carried on a legacy of impact, connection, and delicious compassion; and ultimately was able to completely meet the requested grant amounts for its four beneficiary organizations. Read on for a youth-created video summary and more info.
| | South Lake Tahoe Expansion Update | | |
March was an exciting month for the South Lake Tahoe expansion! Here are some highlights:
-
Parent information meetings took place at both South Tahoe Middle and High Schools
-
Student information meetings took place as well, and the interest surveys are open and many youth have signed up already, including many who are interested in becoming leaders!
-
Community Presentations continue, including presentations conducted by current Hands4Hope youth leaders (pictured above) so they could share about their own personal experiences
-
The South Tahoe Program Coordinator staff position is still open. Please share this opportunity with anyone who might be able to find the right candidate. Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus.
-
Outreach opportunities are on track to begin this summer, as multiple partnerships with local agencies to serve are beginning to form.
