Spring Into Brewing

It is that time of year when we can comfortably brew our beer outside! These three recipes kits have been requested for many years, and today we are excited to introduce them to you.

2 Suns Ale - all-grain recipe kit

For almost a decade we have been asked to develop a recipe kit that was similar to macro beers such as Corona, Budweiser, MIller, etc. The conventional thinking was a homebrewer would only be interested in craft beer styles. However, the requests continued to pour in. Therefore, we created this 2-In-1 recipe kit that may be brewed using a wide range of brewing skills.

This recipe kit would be a great beer to brew with the new Lallemand NovaLager yeast which is a hybrid ale / lager yeast strain.

Able to be brewed with combinations of Termamyl SC DS and SEBAmyl L, -OR- Ceremix Flex and Ondea Pro, this recipe kit has wide appeal to novice and experienced brewers alike. It would also be a good choice for BIAB brewers as it is a very small grain bill.

The use of different enzyme combinations and mash regimes will result in a range of final ABV and total calories.

A Mosaic Galaxy IPA - extract recipe kit

Although we have offered a grapefruit and black IPA for several years, we have never actually offered a regular IPA. Weird, right? That's what we thought too, so we finally came up with this cosmic IPA kit.

Why Cheese?

You may be wondering why you find things like cheese and yogurt making, kombucha and kefir, and etc in our newsletter. The answer is simple, there is a lot of crossover between homebrewing and homesteading. As we offer extensive DIY products in our brick and mortar store, it made sense to offer some of it to our homebrew customers.

Yakima Quality Hops

Introducing the new YQH-1320 experimental hop variety. Discovered in Idaho on a hunting trip, these new hops attributes a tropical, citrus and stone fruit flavor and aroma. Our representative attended the fall harvest last year and described the hops as tropical fruit punch and limeade. The folks at Yakima Quality Hops even reached out to us a couple weeks ago. They were kind enough to provide us with a full PDF spec sheet which is available below.

Additional New Hops Varieties

Nectaron® - This New Zealand variety with a heavy tropical profile is the hot hop for 2023, it's popularity has been skyrocketing since it was initially introduced.

NZH-214 - This is a new blend consisting entirely of New Zealand hop varieties. Offering a lot of tropical and stone fruit notes, it pairs well in a Pale Ale, IPA, and hop-forward session beer styles.

Vista - This is a new hop that comes on the heels of Triumph and Cashmere. It has the ideal profile for Hazy and Juicy style IPA’s with lots of Honeydew, Papaya, and Peach notes.

Lallemand Dry Pitching Practices

On 3/13/23, Lallemand posted on their Instagram page "Dry pitching is the preferred method of inoculating wort. This method is simpler than rehydration and will give more consistent fermentation performance and also reduce the risk of contamination. Rehydration of yeast prior to pitching should be used only when equipment does not easily facilitate dry pitching."
