UCSF's Center for Global Nursing (CGN) at IGHS celebrated its 1st anniversary
Thank you for joining us on this special occasion.
The CGN hosted an anniversary event that began with presentations from nursing leaders from UCSF Health, the School of Nursing, and IGHS leadership, including UCSF Chief Nursing Executive Madelyn Pearson, Interim Dean of the School of Nursing Catherine Waters, IGHS Interim Executive Director George Rutherford, and the CGN Director Rebecca Silvers.
After the presentations, attendees participated in a networking activity where they engaged with one another to share their experiences and interests in global health sciences. A reception followed in the Mission Hall lobby.

2024 CGN Cultural Humility Course
Registration is now open!
We received great feedback from last year's participants and are excited to continue to offer our 3-hour introductory course on cultural humility for all UCSF nurses, APPs, and faculty. Cultural humility is the cornerstone of all global health work and our expertise on this topic is essential to optimize equitable partnerships and cross-cultural collaborations.
Our own UCSF nursing/APP faculty and staff are facilitating the course. Looking forward to seeing you there!
There is no cost for the course at this time. 3 CEUs will be provided.

Quality & Safety Consultant, Benioff Children’s Hospital
In 2005, after training in a high-altitude running camp in Kenya, Scout had heavy admiration for the people and culture and that experience alone shaped her desire to work and serve in low- and middle-income countries. She has been afforded to travel to Asia, South America, Africa, and Cuba to work as a nurse. After working for One4Another as a nurse and photographer in Uganda, Scout helped open what is now the Sweethaven school for children who had lost their parents to HIV. Presently she is providing mentorship in the AMPATH program and will be presenting a quality improvement project with her mentee this May at the Advancing the Roles of Nurses in Global Health Conference in Kenya.
Scout is a Quality and Safety Consultant for UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals. She joined the Center of Global Nursing in January 2023 to serve her community and continue her journey of connection and opportunities in the global nursing domain.

The Roving Community Health Initiative
Community Opportunity
|
|
The Roving Community Health Initiative is a team of UCSF clinicians (RN, NP, PA) who work alongside community organizations and volunteers to provide vaccinations, wound care, and harm reduction in San Francisco, primarily in the Tenderloin and South of Market. Most of the work is on "roving teams" serving our unhoused and marginally housed community members.
Shifts are paid but voluntary and on top of your regular position at UCSF. RCHI covers your time (including OT when applicable), so your home department is not charged.
You need manager approval to pick up shifts, and shifts should be fine with your home department schedule.
Regular opportunities are:
- Thursday and Saturday
- 11 am to 4:30 pm (5 hours paid after 30-minute break deducted)
The first hour of each shift includes prep and orientation for newcomers. Clinicians go out in pairs to work together and support each other. Newcomers are paired with somebody with experience.
