SPOTLIGHT ON A LOCAL NON-PROFIT |

SHINING LIGHT GARDENS
Shining Light Gardens is an incredible organization located in Vero Beach, Florida, that has been working hard to make a positive impact in the community since 2008. Founder Joel Bray started this project in his backyard, and his passion for farming quickly expanded into a 20+ acre farm that is now making a significant difference in the lives of many people.
The farm produces thousands of bushels of fresh, healthy vegetables that are distributed to local food pantries, soup kitchens, veteran organizations, and senior programs. By providing fresh food to families in need, Shining Light Gardens is doing their part to combat hunger in the community.
But that's not all - the garden also grows beautiful flowers that are donated to VNA Hospice House and supplies Miracle Fruit to those undergoing chemotherapy to help them through their healing process. This fruit also helps anyone whose food has lost its flavor.
Shining Light Gardens recently planted over 250 mango and avocado trees to supply fruit, in addition to their already impressive vegetable production. They are always looking for volunteers to help with planting, harvesting, and delivering the produce. Volunteering is an excellent opportunity to get involved in a worthwhile cause, learn about sustainable farming practices, and make a positive impact on the community.

1.) Support the Indian River Land trust! Help conserve and care for our lagoon, rivers, and waterways by making a gift to the Indian River Land Trust in honor of Earth Day
2.) Follow local guidelines for fertilizing and irrigating your landscaping. The Indian River Lagoon is experiencing nutrient pollution, caused by fertilizer and other nitrogen sources. By planting native species and choosing a variety of flowers, you can reduce the amount of fertilizer used in your landscaping and provide a long-term food source for our local and visiting pollinators.
3.) Contribute to the restoration of lands by planting a native tree or shrub on your property!
