Mayor's Message: What Can I Do?
WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF THE FITNESS CENTER?
We have heard from many that it is time for the fitness center to get a "face lift". We don't disagree. We have been waiting for an opportunity to do it with cash.
The Provo Fitness Center is a state-of-the-art facility. The cost for that facility was nearly $40 million which will be paid for over the years through a property tax increase. While we won't try to make the argument one way or the other in regards to the financing, we have made a decision to do it debt-free.
An application has been made to use approxiately $4 million of CARE tax to make necessary improvements to the locker rooms, classroom space, indoor track, aesthetics, and
WATER RATE CHANGES - TIERED RATINGS
In the past year the City Council was required by the State Legislature to adopt tiered water rates. By law, each "tier" had to progressively get more expensive. Below are the rates adopted.
For more information about the tiered rate system click on the button below.
We get questions every day from residents regarding whether or not their property can access UTOPIA. We have made the process of finding out much more simple.
When you log into your utility account you can see clearly whether or not your property is accessible to UTOPIA.
Visit our webpage to see if your property can connect and to learn more about the questions you may have regarding UTOPIA.
The Orem Public Library has a collection of over 12,000 movies and they rent for $1 a week. The collection is better than anywhere in Utah County with the classics from The Burbs, Austenland, Blade, The Fugitive, On Our Own, and most everything else you can imagine (with the exception of Rad and Song of the South).
Non-Fiction movies are free and seasons of television shows rent for $.50 per disc.
Watch for a mailed newsletter in the coming weeks and mailed postcards announcing our spring clean-up program (a free dump pass will also be included). Last year we launched a new program where dumpsters stayed in place for an entire week. It was wildly successful and we plan to do it again!
A full schedule of locations and dates is now available by following the button below.
Both the Splash Pad and the Dog Park have broken ground and are planning to open early Summer. These two amenities will be huge additions to Orem's recreational offering! We hope you enjoy.
Splash Pad - Located at Palisade Park (1300 E and 800 N)
Dog Park - Located at Timpanogos Park (about 1 mile up Provo Canyon on the left)
THE "SAFE EXCHANGE ZONE" @ OREM PD
A year and a half ago some citizens suggested the City create a "safe exchange zone" so citizens could have a safe/monitored place to meet someone. Over the last year and a half this has been used for a variety of reasons (buying/selling something, meeting someone that you would rather not meet at your own home, etc.). This is right in front of the police station (just east of the flagpoles), and it is under surveillance 24/7.
We hope you find this to be a great resource.
CITY OF OREM - CALENDAR OF EVENTS
This summer there will be no shortage of events and activities for you and your family! Keep up with all Orem City events by following the link below,
In Orem, we take our water supply very seriously. Many city administrators, city councils, and mayors in the past have worked very hard to insure a good clean supply of fresh water for the residents of Orem.
As such Orem has one of the best reserves of water through water wells, natural springs, and from the reservoirs.
Also we have and use water treatment facilities that produce great tasting water. In fact two years ago Orem was ranked first in the state of utah to have the best tasting water.
But it is important that we plan for the future and conserve our water for it. Last year the state legislature passed a bill requiring cities to put in place a new water rate structure to conserve culinary water.
I wanted to provide a heads up on the new Orem Tiered Water rate structure passed to meet that law. Please see the post made on December 12, 2016 in regards to our new Tiered Water Rates.
