65th Annual Fairhope Arts & Crafts Festival
|
Video: Denise Curtis, Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce, Music: "Energy" - bensound.com
The 65th Annual Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival is in the books and what an incredible year! Crowds poured into downtown Fairhope for three days of beautiful weather, great art and a memorable atmosphere. Events like these bring in visitors from around the country, they fall in love, then they come back throughout the year.
|
This year's Best of Show winner was Stella and Philippe Coupe. They are originally from France but currently live in Houston, Texas. They create intricate and bright designs using various liquids including paint, dyes and even dish detergent, then snap a photo as they make a splash into those designs. Those photographs are then transferred onto aluminum to give them that vibrant look.
Stella was so excited to win this year's show, especially since this was her first time in the Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival.
If you'd like to see more of her work online, visit splashfineart.com |
A big thank you to everyone who made 2017 a successful show, the Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival Foundation, the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce, the City of Fairhope, city staff, volunteers, artists & patrons.

We've all heard the saying that information is power, at the very least the right information is useful and can make a tremendous difference in most situations.
One of the roles of the Chamber is to provide relevant information needed for planning and decision-making. In this world of information overload, it is easy to miss the important stuff.
In the coming months you will see additional information coming to you on governmental affairs, member news & events. Information we hope to be relevant and timely.
Please look out for ChamberMaster tips as we work to be sure you are taking advantage of all the benefits your membership offers.

Student Training & Exploration Program |
|
9th Grade STEP Students - STYLES Program at Daphne Police Department
|
The 9
th
grade Student Training and Exploration Program students participated in the S.T.Y.L.E. program which stands for
Successful Tips for Youth on Law Enforcement Encounters.
Thank you to the City of Daphne Police Department and the FBI for the opportunity given to these students.
S.T.Y.L.E. is a new program spearheaded by the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Alabama. This program was developed to bridge the gap between our youth and our law enforcement community in our District.
In addition to building positive relationships, the program is designed to teach students how to have a positive encounter with law enforcement, if ever faced with such a situation. The program consists of several carefully designed mock scenarios that mirror a potential traffic stop, a home encounter, as well as a street encounter.
The students were also given a demonstration of the Firearms Training Simulator, so they can understand the split second decisions law enforcement officers face. Over lunch, the students were able to engage with officers with a roundtable discussion, allowing students and officers an opportunity to get to know each other.
When students left, they were equipped with a legal overview on the use of force and an understanding of the proper way to file a civil rights complaint should they ever feel their rights were violated during a law enforcement encounter.

Coastal Alabama Community College |
|
|
STEP 10
th
grade students visited Coastal Alabama Community College to learn more about the Animation and Graphic Design Department as well as nursing. Both departments offered the opportunity for students to e
xplore the options using a hands-on approach.
|
The 11
th
Grade STEP program explored the utilities industry with Daphne Utilities. The setting for the day was in a career fair format as students visited with a variety of departments. The students then rotated through additional departments where they were given the chance to participate in hands-on activities relating to the field departments.
