Happy Spring from Santosha! | |
|
Dear Santosha Community,
Did any of you catch that solar eclipse today? Or perhaps feel the powerful shift of energy away from those things you need to leave behind and a greater awareness of those things that are deserving of your energy and/or the direction in which you are choosing to go? The spring, this new moon and the energy of the eclipse all give us an opportunity to tune in and and recognize if we have fallen off course and we are feeling out of balance in some way, perhaps in relationships in your life or with yourself. This is a potent time to get back on track and realign your your life's path.
Speaking of realigning and renewing, this upcoming seasonal shift is also a great time for a cleanse! Spring, through the lens of Ayurveda, is the Kapha time of year. This means sometimes we feel a bit heavy, sluggish, and lethargic as our energy can be a mirror of the environment around us. As the earth around us thaws out, and we shift into "mud season" the environment within us begins to follow suit. As our bodies try to clear out the heaviness, we sometimes experience some excess mucous which can be a breeding ground for bacteria and we can experience spring colds. When we take action and embrace the opportunity offered by this change of seasons by doing a spring cleanse it can assist our bodies through the process. It could be through the cleanse offered through Santosha, cleaning up your diet and habits a bit, or simply bringing your awareness to things you are ready to shift within your life. Regardless of the action you choose, this is a great time of year to embrace the opportunity to check in, reset, and welcome the changes.

Student of the Month
Sam Renfroe
It is our honor to name Sam as our Student of the Month this month! He is also a wonderful yoga teacher and is filling in as several other teachers have had to step out this month. Thank you so much Sam for sharing your wisdom and light at Santosha!
What has been bringing you to your mat so much more recently?
Coming back from traveling in the fall to a high-energy job this winter, yoga has really been helping me to ground back into my body and calm down my very active mind.
What is your favorite pose?
Child's pose! As someone who seems to always have tight hips and lower back pain, child's pose always helps to get into a nice deep stretch but at the same time fully rest into my shell away from the world. A good friend of mine always says "When in doubt, just soften into child's pose." And she says that for just about every situation in life!
What is your favorite aspect of your practice?
Slowing down. I am constantly reminded how much I can gain from taking an hour out of my day and how it actually feels like much longer. It's like a little portal to step into that nourishes me so I can step back out recharged and ready to go.
Do you have any goals for your practice?
Right now I want to be more consistent not only with practicing but also with learning more movements for specific purposes that help my body, mind, and spirit. I find that the more I explore within myself, the more that I can have to offer other yogis when I am teaching.
Anything you'd like to add?
Yoga is so much more than I thought it would be. I thought it would help me stretch my body, but it has stretched me in many other areas of my life that I would have never imagined. I am grateful for the practice and grateful to have the opportunity to help others in theirs. Thank you!
To show our appreciation for your consistent practice and for stepping in to teach this month, we would like to offer you 20% off all treatments and products in the retail shop throughout the month of April; please be sure to swing by and pick up your gift from us!
Keep it up, Sam!

It’s that time of year again, to refresh, renew and revitalize!

You are also welcome to do it from a distance if you won’t be in Big Sky this spring!
