Meet Peter

“I’m going to wait until the sun comes up and then I’m going to open the curtains and you’re going to make me scrambled eggs and toast. Okay Mommy? Okay?” “Okay, Peter.” I say. Like clockwork, Peter scripts his day with his simple needs and desire for routine.

🌟 Donor Highlight 🌟

At The Centre for Dreams, we believe in the power of community partnerships to foster growth, eliminate barriers, and create meaningful connections. These collaborations not only provide invaluable support in terms of monetary and manpower donations but also serve as a bridge between our members and the wider community.

On Friday, February 9th, we had the pleasure of welcoming Astellas Pharma Canada into our program for their “Changing Tomorrow Day”, a day filled with happiness, laughter, learning, and connection. It was a day that truly embodied the spirit of collaboration and inclusion. Throughout the day, Astellas employees enthusiastically participated in our programming alongside our members, immersing themselves in various activities and programming, and joining the fun at our Thursday afternoon gym time. Their presence added an extra layer of joy and excitement to the atmosphere. Moreover, Astellas team members generously volunteered their time and effort to help organize supplies and resources at The Centre, further demonstrating their commitment to making a positive impact in our community.

The synergy between Astellas Pharma Canada and The Centre for Dreams was visible, and it was evident that both parties benefited immensely from this shared experience. Not only did our members have the opportunity to showcase their skills and talents, but they also forged new connections and friendships with the Astellas team. As we reflect on this wonderful collaboration, we look forward to continuing this relationship in the near future. Together, we can continue to break down barriers, challenge biases, and create a more inclusive and supportive community for all.

The Centre for Dreams would also like to highlight another partnership forged within the local community. Best Buy of Markville Mall has partnered with The Centre to join our programming on a regular basis integrating their employees into our programs, as well as, donating items from their Markville mall store in order to help further enhance our programming. We look forward to this initiative starting and forging this community collaboration moving forward.

   Programming Highlight

The Centre for Dreams stives to make it our goal to provide our members with new and exciting ways to express and learn about themselves through fun, but functional programming. We would like to highlight our “Therapeutic Dance and Drama” programming which take place every other week on Wednesday afternoons.

This dynamic offering provides our members with a unique avenue for self-expression, creativity, and personal growth. Through the art of dance and drama, our members not only get their bodies moving but also find a safe and supportive space to explore different facets of themselves. Whether it's through fluid movements on the dance floor or emotive performances, this program encourages individuals to express themselves in ways they may not have had the opportunity to before.

Rooted in the power of self-expression, Therapeutic Dance and Drama allows our members to tap into their inner emotions, thoughts, and experiences, fostering a deeper connection with themselves and others. It's a journey of self-discovery and empowerment that transcends physical movement. Each step, each gesture, each word spoken or unspoken is a testament to the power of self-expression and the boundless potential within each of our members.

Youth Achieving Dreams

"Youth Achieving Dreams (YAD) continues to make strides in supporting young individuals living with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Our evening and weekend program, tailored for youth aged 13-21, remains committed to fostering growth and essential life, social, and emotional skills among our members. One of the key pillars of YAD is the emphasis on building meaningful relationships and connections. Participants are provided an environment where they can interact, share experiences, and form friendships that extend beyond the program. These social connections play a crucial role in enhancing self-esteem, reducing feelings of isolation, and promoting overall well-being.

As Session 2 draws to a close in early April 2024, we reflect on the journey we have embarked on together and celebrate the remarkable growth and achievements of our members. Throughout the past 12 weeks, we have witnessed transformative development in our participants, from newfound confidence to increased independence and a deeper sense of belonging. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our dedicated staff, partners, volunteers, and the broader community. Together, we have created a nurturing and inclusive space where young individuals with developmental disabilities can thrive and reach their full potential.

As Session 2 comes to a close, we eagerly anticipate the start of Session 3, commencing on April 16, 2024. This 10-week session marks another chapter in our mission to support youth and provide them with an environment to achieve their dreams. We are thrilled to announce that many young individuals with developmental disabilities will be joining us for this upcoming session, reaffirming the growing reach and impact of YAD. If you would like to register your child for Session 3 of Youth Achieving Dreams, please visit the link below to register. As we prepare to embark on this new session, we remain committed to delivering our client-centred curriculum, tailored to meet the unique needs and aspirations of each member. Through a combination of engaging programming, supportive mentorship, and meaningful interactions, we aim to provide a nurturing environment where our members can continue to grow, learn, and thrive. We are excited to witness the progress and achievements that lie ahead as we journey together towards a future filled with endless possibilities!"
