1 - Booster Club Officer & Board Positions Open for 2023-24

We will be losing several long-time, dedicated volunteers who currently hold various roles on the Booster Club Board in June. We would love to hear from anyone curious about learning more about any of the open positions or how you can get involved in a fun volunteer organization dedicated to providing all Churchill athletes and sports teams with the resources and facilities required to support a safe and competitive high school athletics experience.

We have positions available for various interests, strengths, and time commitments. Most of our current volunteer Board members have full-time jobs and multiple kids so there are many positions that are completely manageable and flexible for parents with busy schedules. We more than welcome folks grabbing a friend and “co-chairing” too which is a great excuse to spend time with friends AND volunteer at the same time! Volunteering with the Booster Club is a great way to meet other Bulldog parents in a fun environment.

  • Do you have creative ideas for new logo wear and spirit items for next year? You would enjoy being on the School Store team!

  • Do you want to be “in the know” on Churchill’s athletic teams and facilities before anyone else, but you only have 1 night a month to volunteer? You would get a front row seat once a month as our Recording Secretary!

  • Do you enjoy planning menus for tailgates or trying new things on the grill? You would enjoy being a member of our concessions team! We are looking to form a GROUP of people to help supervise parent volunteers from the various teams in the concession stand for a season 1-2 nights a week, rather than a full year role. In addition, we are looking for a group of people who would have fun together planning the Friday night football game grill specials and rotating as grillmasters for our 4-5 home football games. You would be fully supported by experienced Concessions Managers.

  • Do you like to shop? You would be a great addition to our Concessions team! We have a Sam’s Club membership to shop online for pick up for concessions food and supplies.

These are just some of the opportunities available, none of which are all-consuming! The Booster Club is comprised of a collaborative group of volunteers who step up and help each other and have fun working together.

Officer elections will be held at our June 7th Membership Meeting and non-officer Board members are appointed shortly thereafter so we want to hear from you ASAP! Please contact current Booster Club President, Bridget Calhoun, if you can help next year or if you have questions about what the various roles involve.

Anticipated Officer & Board Position Openings starting July 1:

  • Recording Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Vice President - Concessions Chair(s) (We have 1 returning Concessions Chair so there will be continuity of knowledge and experience!)
  • Membership Committee Chair(s)
  • School Store Committee Chair(s)
  • Spirit Committee Chair(s)

You can learn more about who currently serves on the Board (aka “Leadership Team”) here and more about the Booster Club generally on our website. Bridget Calhoun and others on the Board are more than happy to talk to you about why we got involved, and more importantly, why we find our volunteer roles fun, rewarding, and manageable!

2 - Booster Club Membership & Information

Booster Club Membership - Spring Teams Join Now!

To date, the only Spring Team that has reached 100% membership and is receiving $300 + 10% of its families' Booster Club membership dollars is Varsity Baseball ... Don't miss out on this win-win way to contribute to Churchill Athletics and your team!

BE A PART OF THE TEAM BEHIND THE TEAM!

Thank you to all our families who have joined the Booster Club already this year and who have stepped up to volunteer to drive JV carpools, work concessions, and attend meets, games, and matches wearing your Bulldog spirit wear (available through our School Store online!). You are what makes Churchill athletics amazing. If you haven't joined yet, it's not too late!

Why join? Whether your student is an athlete, a fan, or participates in PE, the Booster Club helps make the experience safer, more competitive, and more fun by providing important resources and support!

What is the Booster Club? The Booster Club works with the Athletic Department to ensure that our athletes have the necessary equipment and facilities to compete safely and at the highest possible level each year. The county provides Churchill with only a fraction of what it takes to support our sports teams. In a typical year, the athletics budget spent per athlete (per roster spot) at Churchill is around $220, yet the County’s contribution is less than $80. The Booster Club plays a critical role in providing supplemental resources to help offset this shortfall.

Can’t remember if you joined this year? Several more teams are getting close to 100% membership! Will it be your team? If you can’t remember if you joined the Booster Club already this year, ask your Team Booster Rep or send an email to our Membership Chair, Claire Drummond and she’ll check for you! Help your team earn 10% of it’s membership dollars and $300 for 100% team membership!

Your annual membership in the Booster Club will provide our student athletes and teams with these resources.

Thank You 100% Booster Membership Teams:

Varsity Cheer, Boys Varsity & JV Soccer, Girls Varsity & JV Field Hockey, Boys JV Basketball, Poms, Girls Varsity Basketball, Varsity Golf, JV Girls Soccer, and Varsity Baseball

3 - The School Store is Open!

Shop the School Store

STUDENTS/STAFF: Have you visited the School Store recently? The school store is stocked with lots of new Churchill Clothes in all sizes (S - 5XL). We have some new items - UA boys shorts, girls running shorts, hoodies and Under Armor Shirts!  Remember: Churchill teachers and staff get 20% off using cash or checks.  If we can get parents to sign up to volunteer to work, we strive to be open every Tuesday and Thursday during lunch.

PARENTS: We NEED YOU! We are looking for parents to sign up for 1-hour time slots in the school store on Tuesdays and Thursdays so we can open for the kids during lunch from 11:00 - 12:00 pm. We cannot open for the kids without parent volunteers. This is the perfect way to volunteer at the school if you only have an hour to spare while the kids are IN school! It is also fun to meet the kids, help support the Booster Club, and see all the cool clothes. No experience is necessary! Grab a friend and do it together!

We’re also looking for a School Store Manager to help more regularly in the Store, train new volunteers, help design and order new spiritwear. Again, no experience necessary for this role either so if any of this sounds interesting, please contact Tamara Greenspan or Bridget Calhoun to learn more!

4 - The Dawg Dish Outdoor Concessions

New beverage item ... LaCroix flavored seltzer waters ... while supplies last!

Currently, our outdoor stadium concession stand is open for all home Girls and Boys JV and Varsity Lacrosse games staffed by a Concessions Manager or Board Member and 2 parent volunteers from the lacrosse teams (2 JV girls/boys team parents sign up to work a varsity girls/boys game and vice versa). This spring, the stadium stand is serving Potomac Pizza, hot dogs, popcorn, and Cup of Noodle as well as a variety of chips, candy, and beverages.

Concessions is an important fundraiser for Churchill Athletics as well as a big part of the fan experience at high school stadium events. We only have a few more regular season home lacrosse games left before the playoffs begin, so please come out to cheer on our teams and get a snack or drink at the Dawg Dish. Remember to bring small bills or spend at least $5 to use Apple/Google Pay or credit/debit cards. Most items cost $3 or less.

Any parents interested in volunteering this spring (or next year!) in the concession stand, please email Alison Moylan, Jake Lynn or Bridget Calhoun! It’s a great way to meet other Bulldog parent volunteers and be a part of a valuable game day tradition at Churchill! No Bulldog athlete or experience necessary to volunteer!

6 - Sponsor Spotlight & Sponsorship Opportunities

Gregorio's is a family owned business that has been a staple in Cabin John Village for over 10 years. Read more here about our very own Churchill alum who takes great pride in his business that continues to give back!

Do you own a business or know of a community business that would like to be featured here? Please visit our Advertising page here to learn more about our high visibility Booster Club Sponsorship advertising packages and how to get your logo on a Stadium Banner or on a Gymnasium Sponsor Glass Pane plus other valuable advertising perks!

A Stadium sponsorship package this spring provides brand exposure to Churchill and visiting spectators at boys and girls lacrosse games and track meets as well as the large number of community organizations and individuals that use the Stadium field and track every week. We are happy to discuss prorated rates for spring sponsorships as well as an extended spring + 2023-24 school-year sponsorship for maximum exposure. Contact Hayley Flack or Bridget Calhoun at [email protected] for more information.

7 - Jack Langerman Cup

Jack Langerman was a proud 2015 graduate of Churchill HS. He was captain of the baseball team and devoted himself to countless community organizations and civic pursuits. He went on to Middlebury College where he continued to spread his infectious spirit and goodwill to students and the greater Middlebury community. In 2021, Jack's life was taken in a tragic accident at the age of 24. His family established the Jack Langerman Community Foundation in his name to support the many causes that Jack held dear, including the Langerman Cup, which began last year between Whitman and Churchill's varsity baseball teams and will continue every spring, as Jack had many friends from schools during his life.

Following the game on April 12th, both teams and their families attended a fundraiser dinner and silent auction at Quincy's Potomac to raise money for the Foundation and continue on his indelible legacy.
