Annual Symposium in Review
David Kilpatrick was the speaker at our symposium on
March 10th hosted this year at Marylhurst University. The capacity audience was treated to an outstanding learning experience. David discussed the latest research on identifying reading difficulties and followed this with suggestions on best practices for intervention.
If you haven't already, you might consider reading David's books.
Essentials of Assessing, Preventing, and Overcoming Reading Difficulties, published in 2015, is reveiwed by Louisa Moats in Perspectives (
Summer Edition, 2016). You can access the online version of the review
here.
Equipped for Reading Success not only explains current research, but also presents a complete program for training phonemic awareness.
Attendees came from across Oregon to attend the symposium.
During the breaks attendees had the opportunity to meet members of our IDA Student Empowerment Panel. The students demonstrated assistive technology that really helps them with their school work and discussed the pros and cons of a variety of learning tools including the C-pen.
