From Our Pastor
"" Alleluia He Is Risen!"  "He Is Risen Indeed!  Alleluia!" "

Reverend Jeremy Jacoby
To the Saints of SOP,
"Alleluia He Is Risen!"  "He Is Risen Indeed!  Alleluia!"
Yes, the celebration of the Resurrection of Our Lord is soon upon us and once again our church (along with Christian churches throughout the world) will ring with the familiar and traditional greeting, "Alleluia! He Is Risen!" "He Is Risen Indeed! Alleluia!"  This Easter greeting is so "traditional" that it has proved impossible to date and some even argue that the Bible itself tells the story of its first use. (Mt. 27:64, Mt. 28:6-7, Mk. 16:6, Lk. 24:6)
However it began it's words confess a remarkable truth and reality that go far beyond mere tradition and custom.  And to be honest every Easter morning when we utter the phrase it makes me a little uneasy, a little melancholy even a little put out.  And it's not simply because I don't like getting up so early (which I don't) or because I'm weary of mere ritual (which I am).  No, the real reason is because in all my years as a pastor preaching on Easter morning I don't think that I have ever fully conveyed the true weight and gravitas of those words.  In fact, it is usually all I can do to keep myself from running up to people grabbing them by the shoulders and shaking them while I howl in their face, "do you have any idea what you are saying!?!?!?!?!?"
Because to this day I still believe that if you asked the "average" Christian what the resurrection of Jesus means they would answer, "It means I'll go to heaven when I die... oh and one day be resurrected too."  And while I absolutely believe every word of that it is accurate I also know with absolute certainty that the Resurrection of Jesus means so much more!
And I don't mean I "know it" as in "I've read lots of books and studied the Bible" so I know it.  I mean I've seen it, I've experienced it.  I've held it in my hands; I've heard it on the lips of God's people.  I've watched it reach out and heal people.

April Sermon Series

April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 - All Services

Central to the Christian faith is the belief that Jesus proved that he was who he claimed to be by rising from the dead. Without this miracle Jesus is just another false messiah - deluded into believing he was the son of God and foolishly giving his life to save the world. But the resurrection proves that Jesus' death rescued us all and that his mission to restore God's creation has begun. Best of all, Jesus taught that, because he lives, we shall live also! He is the "first fruits" of all who believe. We too will one day rise again!

Easter Egg & Scavenger Hunt

March 31st - 9 am
Please Bring your own Baskets, all are welcome

At Summit of Peace we are going on a hunt for Jesus! This year at our Special Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt, kids will be paired in groups with the youth and will use Bible clues to find the next station! Each station will have a mini-lesson, a craft, and a prize, including of course some candy! If you have a bible, you're welcome to follow along with the clues, but don't fret if you don't bring one! The youth will be helping the kids through the various stations making a more meaning hunt. There will also be an Easter Egg Hunt to follow.

God uses Summit of Peace to reach out to the lost and share the love of our Risen Savior, Jesus Christ. But He also provides spiritual support for each of us through our community of faith. Our church gives us Sabbath rest, Christian care and teaching for our children, compassion in times sickness and loss, and friends and fellowship in times of joy.  God cannot do these great things through us without your financial support.
As God blesses you and your family with income in the weeks and months ahead, prayerfully consider what percentage you will invest back into your own spiritual life and the lives of others through Summit of Peace.
