Teacher Appreciation Week

         May 6-10

We need your help to celebrate the teachers & staff of Katie's Kids
A tradition has been established for all the families to come together and help to make this a very special week for the Teachers/staff at Katie's Kids. Our theme for the week this year will be
"How Sweet It Is To Be Taught By You!"
Experience has taught us that food is the best way to treat our staff and make their week very special so there will be a different "treat" scheduled each day to show them how much they are appreciated.
In addition to food and special treats, we also like to give each staff person a special gift during the week. Things we have given in the past are gift cards, canvas bag, insulated cups, etc. In order to provide all of these things we need our families to help us!
There are several ways you can help us to make this week successful!
  • Contacting business for donations (food or gift cards).  Please let Jody know if you contact anyone or if you receive any donations
  • Donating food/supplies for the "treats" we will be supplying each day. Signups will be posted later in April
  • Monetary donations to purchase the gift.  A donation box will be out later in April
  • Volunteering to help setting up and taking down "food days"
Once the activities for the week have been decided, more information will come out to families letting you know more about these options, so keep your eyes on the look out!

Are We Different People in Different Environments?

Taken from the book:

"Failure to recognize the power of the physical and social environment as a strong influence on children's behavior often confuses parents and teachers...They actually see a different child."
"At home, Jacob doesn't eat tomatoes, usually takes two naps, and can't put on his clothes.

Jacob at child care willingly eats tomatoes, never naps, and dresses himself. Emma is never assertive at home with playmates, but at child care she has begun biting. Parents and teachers often react with disbelief...

Why do we underestimate the power of the environment to influence us?...We rarely take into account two things: first, that each of us has 'learned situational personalities' - we respond differently across settings; and second, that the environment is always influencing us, working for us or against us to some degree."
