A Simple Gift
“But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds, we are healed.” -Isaiah 53:4-6
Somehow The Lord always knows how to remind us of His sovereignty. This morning was like every other busy Wednesday morning until I saw Lou waving me over and reaching out his fist. Thinking he was giving me knuckles, I playfully fist-bumped him back and starting laughing. I quickly realized he was waiting to drop something into my hands.
Lou is a fantastic woodworker, surprising our staff with gifts that leave us in awe. His love for giving gifts has touched each one of us in the clinic, exactly when we least expected it. This morning was no different.
This little handmade cross dropped into my hands, reminding me of Easter and Isaiah 53. Such a simple gift represents so much sacrifice, rejection, love, and hope to a lost world longing to be reconciled to God the Father through Christ’s death on the cross. The cross represents a turning point in history and in eternity. From the time Jesus hung on that cross until forever, the angels and saints celebrate our sinless Savior stepping into His creation, conquering sin, pouring out His blood, and rising again. Oh, glorious day! May we worship at His feet, for Christ has set our wretched souls free.
This little handmade cross, a free gift from Lou, reminds me of the ultimate free gift, my sweet salvation in Jesus Christ. 🤍
“Our savior displayed on a criminal's cross. Darkness rejoiced as though heaven had lost, but then Jesus arose with our freedom in hand. Oh, Your grace so free washes over me. It's your endless love pouring down on us. You have made us new, now life begins with You.”
