President Word
Hello Auxiliary members,
April Showers bring May flowers, and what a kick-off to spring we have had. I want first to congratulate our e-board members who were re-elected to their positions. I am honored to preside over the '22-'23 as your President and my superior officers. Elaine Gravett as 2nd Vice President, Marie Brilliant as Secretary, Julie Booty as Treasure, and Dawn Bourque as Sergeant at Arms and membership chair.
We are currently looking to fill our 1st Vice President, Chaplin, and Historian role, and anyone interested in being a unit officer, please reach out to me directly. Our unit officers play a vital role in supporting our mission and our Post. This is your Unit, and everyone has a voice. Our Post and Unit only functions when everybody is willing to do their part and volunteer. As I have stated throughout my tenure as President, your commitment will never come into question while I hold office. We are here to support Veterans, our programs, and our mission. I ask, please do not stand back and complain about how things should or have been done; bring forward your ideas on how we can make our Unit better. I am asking each of our members to step up and give your input on how we can make the "MIGHTY 202" even better.
I look forward to the day when our meetings are filled with the voice of our members, and we are not struggling to find volunteers. Remember, when you volunteer, you help support our mission even a little bit.
This leads me on to my last topic of discussion, volunteer hours. I know...I know..this subject is something I have been discussing since February. I want to shed some light on this. In June, we will be looking to host a volunteer breakfast at the Fair Grounds Cafe, where we will honor those who have volunteered for the '21-'22 calendar year. I want to make sure no member goes unrecognized for their efforts and support of the Post. Please submit your name and volunteer hours to alpost202auxiliary@gmail.com by the end of the month. We want each of you to know how grateful we are for your volunteer hours.
I am always here for you either by phone at 207-841-7245 or by email at alpost202auxiliary@gmail.com.

Membership
As of April 5th, we were still sitting at 91.72% of memberships. Unfortunately, we missed our April 10th deadline of 95% membership. We did have some memberships come through over the last week; however, we have hit a standstill with 10 members left to pay and 3 new members to hit our goal of 10 new in 2022.
I want to remind those who have not paid that your membership is essential and critical to our Post. Please reach out to me directly if you need support paying your dues.
If you know someone looking to join an outstanding unit, please connect with Dawn Bourque at alpost202auxiliary@gmail.com. Have questions about eligibility? Please send us an email and us the subject line Membership.

National Auxiliary President Visit
|
It was a fantastic honor to have our National Auxiliary President Kathy Daudistel visit Team Maine from the 7th through the 10th. The Department of Maine Offices and Kathy traveled 603 miles from Walker's Point (President Bush's summer home) in Kennebunkport to the Height of the Land in Rangeley to Togus VA, Sisters of Sisters in Arms, American Legion Family Headquarters, and a few Legion Post along the way. A huge thank you went out to everyone we met along the way for all the warm hospitality you showed us these past few days. (Message from Joan Caron on Department of Maine Facebook Page.)

We have 2 1/2 weeks left in our membership contest with Post 158 Lisbon. New Legionaries, Sons, or Auxiliary members during the months of March and April is the name of the game. One of these two Post Commanders will be bar tending at the winning Post. Will it be Cmdr Lemont tending bar at Post 158 or will Cmdr Hall serve the Mightiest membership around?

The Department of Maine Legion would like to thank Senator King and the 57 Senate co-signers for supporting one of the American Legion's 2022 Agenda items! Let's watch this and make sure it passes. Write your Member of Congress to show support.
U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) applauded a vote by the Maine Veterans’ Homes (MVH) Board of Trustees to keep its Caribou and Machias sites open. The decision comes on the heels of swift bipartisan action from both the Maine Legislature and Governor Janet Mills. Senator King had spoken out against the original decision to close the sites, and joined the full Maine Congressional Delegation in February to urge the board to engage with elected officials to explore options to keep the homes open. King is also cosponsors bill seeking to Provide Full Military Benefits for Disabled Veterans.
