SKIN – THE LARGEST ORGAN IN OUR BODY
A message from Dr. Leslie Saltzman, Internist and Medical Director

Our skin is the largest organ of our body, with a total area of about 20 square feet. The skin protects us from microbes and the elements; helps regulate body temperature, and permits the sensations of touch, heat, and cold. However sun exposure, pollutants, and skin disorders such as acne can cause damage to the skin in the form of discoloration, scarring, sagging, visible blood vessels, and wrinkling. Treatments can help to repair and reverse some of the damage.

To help guide and provide you with this care, I personally hired Physician Assistant Lisa Taxin, whom I worked with previously at Tandigm Health, to run our Demacenter Medical Spa. Lisa and her team are well equipped to devise personalized treatment plans for all skin types and concerns.

FIGHTING ALLERGIES
By: Dr. Leslie Saltzman

If you’re one of the 50 million Americans who suffer from allergies, your symptoms may bloom when the seasons shift. Itchy, watery eyes, a tickly throat, and a stuffy, runny nose can make you dread spring. Seasonal allergies — also called hay fever and allergic rhinitis — can make you miserable. Try these simple strategies to keep seasonal allergies under control.

Reduce your exposure to allergy triggers
To reduce your exposure to the things that trigger your allergy signs and symptoms (allergens):

  • Stay indoors on dry, windy days. The best time to go outside is after a good rain, which helps clear pollen from the air.
  • Delegate sweeping, weed pulling, and other outdoor chores that stir up allergens.
  • Remove clothes you've worn outside and shower to rinse pollen from your skin and hair.
  • Wear a mask if you do outside chores.
