Is Your Child Riding Safely?
Car Seat Safety
Proper use of car seats helps keep children safe. But with so many different seats on the market, many parents find this overwhelming. If you are expectant parents, give yourselves enough time to learn how to properly install the car seat in your car before your baby is born to ensure a safe ride home from the hospital.
For all children, the type of seat your child needs depends on several things, including your child's age, size, and developmental needs.
The best car seat is not always the most expensive one - it's the one that best fits a child's weight, size, and age, as well as your vehicle. Once you select a seat, be sure to try it out, keeping in mind that store displays and illustrations might not show the correct usage. It's up to you to learn how to install a car safety seat properly and harness your child for the ride.
If you need help installing your safety seat, certified technicians will be on hand at

Child Abuse Prevention Month
Month
April is Child Abuse Awareness Month and the Child Abuse Prevention Council of
Amador is bringing awareness to the notion that all children of Amador County
deserve to be raised in a safe, secure, and loving home.
Pinwheels for Prevention is a nationwide public awareness campaign that puts a
new
spin on prevention. The pinwheel has come to serve as the national symbol of
the great childhoods we want for all children. The campaign uses community
activities and public policies to prioritize
prevention right from the start, making
sure child abuse and neglect never occur.
Throughout April, planting
pinwheel gardens in honor of
children in
communities
demonstrates how we can all support children and
promote ways to
make healthy and happy childhoods.
In Amador there will be
1700 pinwheels total - representing the number of children
age 0-5 in Amador County ~ acknowledging that the youngest children are our
most
vulnerable.
Visit Four Local Pinwheel Gardens:
- The corner of Preston Avenue/Sutter Lane in Ione
- Little Oak Learning Center at the Jackson Rancheria
- Health & Human Services building, Conductor Blvd., in Sutter Creek

Calling all Child Care Providers
& Preschool Teachers!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How can you give kids the best start in life?
... by taking your children to well-child and dental check ups and also, by doing an "ASQ."
The Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) is a way to make sure your child is "on track." The screening tools are designed
to be completed by parents or primary caregivers, that encourage parent-caregiver involvement.
Each questionnaire can be completed in 10-20 minutes, and is divided into five areas: Communication, Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Problem Solving, and Personal-Social.
The benefit for all children and families is so that parents/caregivers know which areas they can focus on at home with their children.
For more information,
please call First 5 Amador at 257-1092.
Spring Means Strawberries!
A fun recipe for little helping hands!
Strawberry Galette
Ingredients
- One refrigerated pie crust
- 2 cups strawberries, washed and quartered with the stems cut off
- 3 Tbsp flour
- 1/3 cup + 1 Tbsp brown sugar
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. Place pie crust on top of parchment
paper on top of a baking pan.
3. Spread 1 Tbsp sugar and 1 Tbsp flour on top of the pie crust (this prevents it from getting too soggy).
Nurturing Children During Times of Stress
A Guide to Help Children Bloom
From Yolo Kids/Yolo County Children's Alliance
We all feel stressed sometimes. Some stress is a normal, healthy part of life. It can help us stay safe, try harder, or make us grow stronger. However, intense stress that doesn't go away can be too much to handle without help.
As a parent or caregiver, there are ways you can help your child handle intense stress. Much like a seed that overcomes a difficult environment to grow and flower, you and your child can bloom even in challenging times. This guide has nurturing tips and resources that can protect you and your child from the effects of intense stress. These ideas will also help you connect with your child.
This guide is for parents and caregivers who want to learn how to bloom even in stressful times while helping children do the same!
