Easter - Live in the Light!

The season of Lent proved to be a powerful time for Immanuel. We gathered for wonderful Wednesday night meal   s, and we reflected on Jesus through the thoughtful words of our own members. During Holy Week we walked with Jesus through the last supper, meditated on the cross, and celebrated the resurrection on Easter Sunday with powerful music and the Word.
The Easter season is our opportunity to embrace the resurrection story and life in Jesus. We have been having a great time getting to know more people and ministries at Immanuel in these months, and we're looking forward to an energetic and ambitious Easter season. April will provide several opportunities for us as a church to take some confident steps forward in faith together. Our hope is that these opportunities will help us to build on the already great energy we have established.
It is clear that Immanuel has great passion for faith in action: reaching out to neighbors, tackling the most serious issues in our community, and building God's kingdom of grace, forgiveness and love. The life of Jesus fills our church and our people - HALLELUJAH! We are confident that God has great plans for us, as we continue to grow together.

Capital Campaign  - April 22nd will launch the next phase in Immanuel's capital campaign. We see this campaign as an opportunity for us to step boldly into our future. We have weathered a rough patch, but we emerged strong and ready for our next step. This capital campaign is a powerful way for us to show the community our commitment to welcoming everyone into Immanuel's mission of building God's kingdom. We honor the incredible faith and commitment of the past by stepping forward with Jesus into the new vision for tomorrow.

Small Group Bible Study
- Beginning this month, we are encouraging everyone to join our congregation-wide Bible study, "If You Want to Walk On Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat." The Church is more than just a building.  As we step forward in faith together, we encourage YOU to take this Easter season to grow in faith and devotion. We have found that a great way to develop and maintain a focus on faith is to participate in a small group, where we love, support, and hold one another accountable. We would love for everyone to participate in a group. The study is just 6 weeks long, and we believe it will help us grow in our understanding of God. We also expect that it will challenge us, pushing us to think about the ways God is calling us forward in faith. Is God calling YOU to "Get out of the boat"?

Here's how it works:
Wednesdays - Ignite (Confirmation) - 5:30-7:30pm
Our regular Ignite youth group will begin to integrate Pr. Sara into the 'large group' teaching time. On the surface, Wednesdays will look and feel pretty familiar. Expect to continue to have fun, build friendships, and learn important spiritual lessons. We'll just be adding Pr. Sara into the mix.
Confirmation students, on top of Wednesday Ignite, will be expected to complete Worship reports, fulfill serving requirements, and have an experience in summer Bible camp or the Mission Trip.
We fully expect some students to participate fully on Wednesdays who are not on the 'confirmation track.' Our hope is that everyone will find Ignite to be a place where we grow in love for God and toward one another - following Jesus every step of the way!
The 'Sunday option' - 9:00-9:45
We are already aware of at least 2 middle school students who will not be able to participate in Wednesday Ignite. We are able to offer a Sunday morning class from 9-9:45. This will be led by volunteers. Please understand that Wednesdays are a far more complete experience including fellowship, spiritual practices, and student leadership opportunities. For those who cannot make Wednesdays work, Sunday morning will offer at least a scaled down experience of the program.

Confirmation Day for this year's 8th graders will happen
in the fall of their 9th grade year, at the end of October.
(on Reformation Sunday, the last Sunday of October 2018)

Next fall, we will have a confirmation retreat to fulfill all requirements
in preparation for their 'Affirmation of Baptism' - i.e. Confirmation Day.
Detailed information on this will be available in September of 2018.
If you have questions, please contact Pr. Sara:  or call 262-248-4211.

"FUEL" High School Youth Group

MISSION TRIP - Fundraisers are coming soon. April 15th is the Dessert Auction. Memorial Day weekend is the Chocolate Fest fundraiser, SIGN UP WITH PR. PAUL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! There will be other opportunities during weekends, make sure you are receiving FUEL emails for details as these opportunities emerge. For example, the Little Sprouts Day Care at Immanuel is getting a new playground fence and we will be hiring students to help with demolition of the existing fence... The closer we get to the summer, our FUEL Wednesdays will be about the mission trip - planning, preparation, and education. We have a lot to cover in order to set ourselves up for a successful experience in July.
FUEL meets every Wednesday! 5:30 PM - Dinner; 6-7:30PM - FUEL

Registration for this summer's High School FUEL Mission Trip to the Pine Ridge Reservation is OPEN!
Where: Pine Ridge Indian Reservation - Kyle, South Dakota
When: July 21-29
Cost: $600 per student (Adult leaders $300)
Fundraising and scholarships are available!!!
There are 3 opportunities on the near horizon for students to earn money toward their $600 Mission Trip fee.
March - Sign up for the CHOCOLATE FEST work opportunities. We are extremely fortunate to have this opportunity to work at Chocolate Fest in Burlington. This event happens over Memorial Day Weekend, but the sign-up needs to happen this month!!!
April - Spaghetti dinner Dessert Auction. We are still trying to establish the date, but this event often brings in a lot of money to support students in their mission trip. It is hard work, but it will get the job done.
May/June - Since we organize this mission trip on our own, there will likely be opportunities for students to earn money by helping to plan the trip.
Contact Pastor Paul for more details.
Mission Trip Details: This year we go to Oglala Lakota County (on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation), one of the most impoverished areas in the USA. The unemployment rate is around 85%, half of adults have diabetes due to poor nutrition, the suicide rate is the highest in the nation, and substance abuse is rampant. In spite of all of this, the Oyate Teca Project remains a beacon of hope in the community. We will partner with Oyate Teca to play a key role in their gardening program, which helps people learn how to grow and preserve their own food - fresh fruits and vegetables! The Oyate Teca project is one of the most successful programs of its kind due to partnerships with people like us.  We will also explore the rich heritage and history of the Oglala Lakota people. Students can plan on spending some time in the Badlands and heading into the Black Hills.  Our 'mission' is to show our Lakota friends what the love of God is supposed to look and feel like. It's also to serve in Jesus' name, bringing important resources into an impoverished community and building friendships with people who have largely experienced alienation from the church.
Students can reserve their spot by completing the
registration and waiver (Available in church office)
and paying a $100 deposit.
Questions can be sent to Pr. Paul -

"Stitchin' for Kids"

The Wednesday morning quilters have a special project in the works.  They will be making fleece blankets for the children who come to The Tree House (Children's Advocacy Center, Elkhorn) due to suspected physical or sexual abuse and/or neglect.  Age range is anywhere from a couple weeks old to 17 years of age.  This can be a traumatic experience for these precious souls and the Tree House staff has found that if they are able to give them a "Lovie" when they arrive, or leave, it helps calm and sooth the children while the process is taking place.   If you would like to help with this worthwhile endeavor, many hands make the project go quickly besides the fact that it's fun!  Contact Jackie Kuehl for more information.   Another way to be involved is to give a monetary donation to help offset the cost of each blanket ($20 per blanket).  Donations can be placed in an envelope with "Stitching for Kids" on the outside and left with Bethany in the church office.  If you prefer to write a check, make it out to Immanuel Lutheran Church and put "Stitchin' for Kids" on the memo line.   The Wednesday morning quilters plan to have this as an ongoing project.  Last year 300+ children were served at the Tree House...that is a lot of blankets. Thank you for whatever you can do to be of assistance to these children.

*STAY TUNED....the HEARTS TO CARE ministry team is working diligently to get this ministry organized and anticipates that we will soon have Hearts to Care up and running.  To our wonderful volunteers - thank you!  We will be in touch with you soon for a brief training session.
God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help others...   1st Peter 4:10-11

Electronic Giving

Throughout the year, if you can't make it to church we encourage you to automate your regular donations. Immanuel relies on the consistent financial support of the congregation and electronic giving offers an easy way to give on a recurring basis. Visit   or contact the church office for more information. We have authorization forms in the church office. We thank you for your continued support!

Weekly Giving Envelopes

We are always thankful for your gifts of offering. Thank you for using your giving envelopes! The giving envelopes add efficiency to the counting process on Sundays by eliminating the need to look up names and envelope numbers. Thank you for your generosity. +     THANK YOU! Our youth Sunday was amazing!!  Thank you to all who were involved in this day.  This includes leaders, volunteers, kitchen helpers, and of course the youth!!  A special thank you goes out to Sandy Boales and Arlene Redell who went above and beyond to help make our youth breakfast and coffee hour a success. Ellen Gullbrandson and Katy Kanelos were amazing at guiding our youth that morning!  Thank you to both of you ladies!  We would also like to thank all who donated to our youth programs on that Sunday.  Your generous contributions are what makes these programs run!  You are an absolute blessing to the youth ministry!!

+     Dear Pastors Paul & Sara, Thank you to all of Immanuel Lutheran Church's parishioners who participated in the hats, gloves, scarves, & mittens drive for the Tree House. We are grateful to be able to supply these items to our children & families who use our services. We appreciate your kindness and generosity to the abused & neglected children in our community. Sincerely, Bridget Dickinson
