"Music and Mimosas" What A Success!

“Music and Mimosas” was the theme of this event.  Event Chairs, Jamie Johnson and Meredith Peace coordinated a wonderful gathering of Platte County Democrats. The mimosas were cold, the buffet was delicious and background ambience was provided by the Kansas City Area Youth Jazz Followship. Raffle prizes were coordinated by the Platte County Federated Women’s Democratic Club. Darron Story served as the Master of Ceremonies. Special remarks were given by Emily Weber, Co-Chair, House Democrat Campaign Committee. Honorable Sly James, former KCMO Mayor, spoke on the great need for pre-school education programs to make sure our children are prepared to excel when they enter school. Platte County Federated Women's Democratic Club

Platte County Federated Women's Democratic Club met April 11th.  Dan Fowler, KCMO City Council, District 2, discussed the Meta project at 169 and I 435, which is to bring in taxes to city and 3 school districts. other items he discussed were affordable housing, homelessness and that the KCI airport is coming in under budget, so will be able o add some more features back in. Attending the State Convention will be Kathy Bray, Helen Weigman, Tracy Holthouse and Rita McGuire. Results of the member survey about meeting times will be announced at May meeting. Music and Mimoosa fund raising event was announced and group's raffle donations collected.

Platte Country Democratic Central Committee

The Platte County Democratic Central Committee met on April 14 at the Platte County Resource Center. The main topic was finalizing plans for the Spring Event, :"Music and Mimosas". Other topics included membership recruitment and acknowledging new primary candidates from Platte County.

Northland Democratic Club

The Northland Democratic Club met on April 19th at the ACA Club. Guest speak was Spencer Toder, Democratic candidate for Missouri US Senate. Spencer is working to build a better future for Missouri. His platform is focused on ensuring our government is working equally for ever Missourian. While he is a lifelong Democrat, his values are universal and do not belong to any one party. Two new candidates also address the group. Becky Nafzinger is running for Platte County Clerk. She is planning on working with John DeFoor, candidate for Platte County Presiding Commissioner, for better Platte County government. Sarah Shorter saw the there was no Democratic candidate for Missouri Senate District 34 and decided to enter the election. She is disappointed by how poorly state government operates and she knows she can bring about a change for the better.
