We say that confidently because we don’t like them either. We would much rather bring you the classical music you enjoy without interruptions. But 70% of our budget comes from listeners.

We know you value WBJC, and for that we are truly grateful! Like you, we believe there is a place in radio for the classical music and opera formats, undisturbed by commercial interruptions. So, while other radio stations throughout the country continue to abandon classical music, we’ve remained true to our mission since 1951.

On Sunday, April 17th at 6.00 p.m., The Ivy Bookshop will host Judith Krummeck, host of The Ivy’s Booknotes on WBJC, and Iranian poet, Pantea Amin Tofangchi, in a reading of their prose and poetry around the theme of immigration.

On Wednesday, April 20th and 27th, Jonathan Palevsky will discuss the First and Second Symphonies of Brahms for the Odyssey Program.

Grand Opera at the Lyric continues with Roméo and Juliet, sung in French, with English surtitles, Friday, May 13 and Sunday, May 15. Based on William Shakespeare’s “Roméo and Juliet”, the star-crossed story of the most famous lovers in history is expressed through the gorgeous music of the French romantic composer Charles Gounod.

Directed by Shakespearean specialist Bernard Uzan, beautiful and accomplished soprano Sara Joy Miller will sing Juliette, complemented by charismatic American tenor Jonathan Boyd as Roméo. Versatile Mexican-American baritone Luis Alejandro Orozco will sing Mercutio and dynamic bass Kevin Langan will appear as the kindly Father Laurent. Rising American Maestro Adam Turner will conduct the Concert Artists of Baltimore Orchestra.
