New Hampshire Afterschool Network Celebrates Afterschool Professionals Who Make a Profound Difference in Young People's Lives
NHAN is celebrating Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week, April 22-26, 2024, along with the National AfterSchool Association, to recognize, appreciate, and advocate for those who work with young people during out-of-school hours.
Why is it important to recognize Afterschool Professionals?
An estimated 7.8 million children participate in afterschool programs each year; for every child in an afterschool program, two more are waiting to get in. Every young person deserves quality afterschool experiences that positively impact their development. It takes skilled professionals to create these experiences. Because of the important role afterschool professionals play in kids’ lives, they deserve recognition and support!

Submissions Now Open for 2024 Magnify Voices Expressive Art Contest!
Submissions are now open for the New Hampshire Children’s System of Care (CSoC) sixth annual Magnify Voices Expressive Art Contest. Now through April 21, New Hampshire students in fifth through 12th grade are invited to submit a creative piece about their experiences and connections to mental health. An initiative of CSoC, Magnify Voices raises awareness, erases stigma, and effects change to help ensure the social and emotional health of youth in the Granite State.
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), one in six youth in N.H. experience a mental health disorder each year. Early intervention for mental health improves outcomes throughout life. In 2020, 57 percent of Granite Staters with depression age 12 to 17 did not receive any care. An inadequate mental health system negatively impacts individuals, families, and communities.
Submissions for Magnify Voices can be in the form of a short video, song, performance, or interpretive dance (two minutes or less); an essay or poem (1,000 words or less); or a design medium such as a sculpture, photography, painting, or diorama. Twelve finalists will be chosen by a panel of judges, including youth judges, and will be announced at the celebration event on May 22 at New England College in Henniker. The People’s Choice Award will be voted on by the public and announced at the event. In addition to the celebration event, all submissions will be displayed at other exhibits and events around the state.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month! | |
|
The 2023/2024 Prevention Resource Guide recognizes that there are actions we can take as a society and within communities, organizations, and families to address the root causes of child abuse and neglect. The prevention resource guide seeks to highlight the innovative ways that communities around the country are doing purposeful prevention work to help children and families thrive. The protective factors have always been central to the Resource Guide. A protective factors approach focuses on positive ways to engage families by emphasizing their strengths, in addition to identifying areas where they have room to grow with support. Focusing on protective factors helps children, youth, and families build resilience and contributes to positive outcomes. The resource guide was shared as part of National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
