Educational Rights Holders Booster Class on Wednesday, April 7th, 2021, 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Zoom. (2 CE Credits) with Mia Ragent

Calling all Educational Rights Holders! Please join SFCASA Education Specialist Mia Ragent for an evening of educational advocacy “booster” training and discussion. Mia will review ERH expectations before focusing on remote learning-specific advocacy. The training will include time for breakout rooms where volunteers can share education success tips and ask case-specific questions of Mia and their group. Current ERHs are strongly encouraged to attend, CASAs who are not ERHs are also welcome!

Navigating Team Dynamics: How Your Role as a CASA is Unique on Wednesday, April 14, 5:30-7:30pm on Zoom (2 CE Credits) with Allison Roeser

Join us for an engaging workshop which will focus on empowering your unique role and strengths as a CASA Advocate within a team setting for positive youth outcomes. During this CE, you’ll have the opportunity to talk and build community with other advocates, share experiences and ask questions about how to navigate “sticky” situations (including when you may not agree with a team plan or decision).

Countertransference and Self Awareness on Monday, April 19, 2021 6pm – 8pm on Zoom (2 CE Credits) with Dr. Natalia Estassi

This training will discuss counter transference, a term Freud founded, and how it can both positively and negatively impact our work as providers. Discussed will be the many environmental and social stressors we are facing today, this includes the COVID-19 pandemic and the racism pandemic, which will impact us in various ways. As a CASA, in hearing the losses and hardships of your youth, one is often triggered, especially in these difficult times. Explore the importance of your own self-awareness to best guarantee one can remain effective as a provider. Learn ways to cultivate self-awareness and the importance of our own boundaries. Review the importance of self-care and barriers that can lead to burnout and vicarious trauma. 

Special Education in COVID on Tuesday, April 27th, 2021, 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Zoom. (2 CE Credits) with Joseph Feldman

Joseph Feldman from the Community Alliance for Special Education will present on the state of special education in COVID, how CASAs/ERHs can advocate for appropriate remote services, assessments, and compensatory education once schools reopen. This is an incredible opportunity to learn from and ask questions of an expert in the field, please take advantage and come prepared with questions!

Applying to College as a Justice-Impacted Person on Saturday, April 10th, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM on Zoom (1 CE Credit)

Antonio Reza was incarcerated at the age of 19, convicted of second degree armed robbery. Hear how he went from "Felonies to 4.0s", graduated as Valedictorian from a 4-year university, and is now attending law school on full scholarship. Antonio is currently Northern California student representative for the California System Involved Bar Association, and student president of the National Justice Impacted Bar Association.

Aaron Waldron is the Assistant Director of Admissions & Financial Aid at Santa Clara University School of Law. He will discuss the types of financial aid available and eligibility requirements.

SkyStar Ferris Wheel Rides for Youth, Advocates, and Caregivers
Thanks to generous donors, SFCASA is able to provide tickets for youth and their advocates and/or caregivers to ride the SkyStar Ferris Wheel in Golden Gate Park!

With COVID safety in mind, gondolas are limited to riders from shared households, and are sanitized after each use.

Project Pilot PAID Workshops for LGBTQ+ and Allies

The San Francisco Community Health Center is launching Project PILOT virtual workshops. The focus of the workshops is preventing and reducing harms related to HIV, hepatitis, and substance use/misuse.

Held every Thursday in April from 10:30am-12:30pm (4/1, 4/8, 4/15, 4/22, and 4/29), Project Pilot is recruiting people ages 18-25 who identify as LGBTQ+ (and allies) and live or hang in the Bay Area. Eligible people who join the workshops can earn up to $150 for their participation.

HYPE Center Opens Youth Supplies Center
Do you work with youth who need clothing or hygiene supplies? How about baby items like diapers, bottles, and/or toys? The HYPE Center has these resources and more for youth who may need them right now!
 
Every Thursday from 11:00AM to 1:00PM starting this week, youth members (or providers on behalf of youth) can make an appointment to shop HYPE Center's supplies listed below and pick up items they need. Youth and providers can make their appointments using this link.
#Funds4Youth Direct Payments Advocacy Campaign
The California Department of Social Services received 41 million dollars to support former and current foster youth throughout the pandemic. California Youth Connection is requesting for those funds to be turned into a stimulus check for 14-27 year olds who are or were in the foster care system, and requests your help in advocating for such a usage of funds by calling the department.
