The Second Annual Arizona Healthcare Workforce Summit brought together a diverse group of industry leaders in the healthcare, education, and workforce development fields to continue efforts to build a stronger future.
The 2-day summit was kicked off by a virtual greeting from Governor Katie Hobbs followed by Amy Loyd, Ed.L.D., Assistant Secretary for the Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education (OCTAE) at the U.S. Department of Education. The hot topic of the discussion was concern for the shortage of Registered Nurses (RNs) that has been on the rise even as the need for health care grows. This brought into focus the national collaborative efforts of educational institutions aligning with the healthcare industry in developing and strengthening career pathways for those seeking healthcare professions.
During panel discussions, the key takeaway that was offered is the importance of building working relationships with the economic development and education teams in order to promote the current growth of our economy. We heard great examples of collaborative efforts throughout the communities in the southern region that have been building an incredible pipeline of training for the youth as well as adults seeking a new career.
There was great representation from the Northern Arizona Colleges, healthcare businesses and workforce development. The information that was shared will help foster a dynamic working relationship now and in the future. It is apparent that our region is on the cusp of building incredible career pathway options to strengthen our present economy.
