March at the CIBPA:

March was definitely an exciting month at the CIBPA! Below is a recap of our many great events:

Education Awards Foundation Bursary

In keeping with its successful tradition of encouraging academic excellence with its Education Foundation, the CIBPA once again hosted an inspirational Bursary Awards Dinner on March 27th at Le Parc by awarding 23 deserving students with bursaries and scholarships.  CIBPA Education Foundation President and Past President of the CIBPA, Mr. Robert Sacco recognized their academic achievements, while extending a heart-felt thank you to all sponsors, donors and endowment providers.   To view pictures of the evening and recipients, visit toronto.cipba.com  The Education Bursary Program supports students of Italian heritage in all fields of study, as well as non-Italians enrolled in Italian studies curriculum.  We can all take part in continuing to grow CIBPA's long-standing history of helping more and more deserving students in coming years.  Attending the upcoming CIBPA 61st Annual President's Ball on June 14th is a step in that direction as funds raised through this event help support the CIBPA Education Foundation.  For more information on either event, please contact the CIBPA Office at (416) 782-4445 or email:

Empowering Young Women:

 Empowering Young Women - 2013
On Sunday, March 24th at Cittadini Ristorante in Vaughan, over 30 attentive young girls received the gift of inspiration while being given an opportunity to learn first-hand about the different career options from various female Italian Canadian professionals in discipline areas of Law; Entrepreneurship; Medicine; Enterprise, Dentistry; Technology; Finance; Education; and, Architecture.  The ambitious students learned about the skills, challenges and triumphs of succeeding in various jobs.  The carousel-type setting lent itself easily to informal dialogue and abundant networking among all speakers and the young girls.  This inaugural luncheon session was organized by CIBPA member Lia De Cicco-Remu.  Lia - whom is the Director, Partners in Learning/Education Strategy, Microsoft Canada, moderated the event and did a remarkable job at welcoming the young crowd as she paid homage to the preceding generation of 'stay-at-home' mothers and 'in-the-work-force' mothers of Italian decent - for their instrumental role in teaching their daughters the importance of an education and who empowered them with vision and drive to aspire to greater heights professionally and personally while always remembering and celebrating their Italian roots.  Additionally, Silvia Cioci, BSc student, Queen's University along with grade 10 student Ariana Magliocco at St. Elizabeth Catholic High School spoke about what it means to be an 'Italian Girl' in today's generation and how mothers can continue to support their daughters in their journey to reach their fullest potential. Our young guests were also encouraged to exchange email addresses with speakers and other young girls in attendance - as a means to grow their personal network and to keep in touch with one another. A warm thank you to our organizers, mentors and all guests! Judging from the success of this initial event, a second event is expected in the Fall - stay tuned!  For more information about this event or to contact a mentor speaker, please contact the CIBPA Office at (416) 782-4445 or email:

An extended thank you goes out to all our inspiring mentor speakers - their time, energy, perspective and talents were appreciated by all in attendance.

We would like to thank:
