What our patients are saying..

"I couldn't be happier with ilumina Healing. Dana and her team are fantastic. I am now 4 1/2 months pregnant (with her help!) and continue to see her regularly. Every time I come in, we address whatever issue I am dealing with that day. From a simple headache to swelling feet to congestion. She adapts each treatment to suit my specific need on that specific day. In addition to me being completely ZEN! Every time I leave there I am completely restored!  I would recommend anyone and everyone to ilumina Healing!"    Visit our Yelp page to read more reviews, or leave one yourself.  Find us on Yelp

Acupuncture is Safe and Effective

Acupuncture can be gentle as well as effective. We often have patients asking "Does acupuncture hurt?" Here at ilumina our acupuncturists have advanced training and years of experience in many different styles of needling. For patients who do not like needles, we have available a style of treatment that does not require the use of needles. For those who need trigger point release work ("dry needling"), Catherine Travis, L.Ac. has advanced training that enables her to use techniques that causes the least amount of discomfort.

We work together with our patient to design an acupuncture treatment plan that is within his/her comfort level. We encourage you to experience the benefits of acupuncture by highly trained and experienced acupuncturists.

Treating Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue that only grows within the uterus grows outside of it. The main symptoms are pain and infertility, but can also include fatigue, constipation and headaches. According to Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) there are 4 diagnoses for endometriosis based upon clinical presentations. They are Qi and Blood stagnation, Cold in the uterus, Heat from blood stagnation and Qi deficiency.

Traditional Chinese medicine treats endometriosis with acupuncture occurring once to twice a week for the first half of the menstrual cycle then once a week during the second half. The point protocol is constructed for each treatment taking into account the TCM diagnosis, what part of the menstrual cycle the patient is in, and any other ailments occurring at the time.

Chinese herbs are often administered and are an important component to successful treatment. Just like the acupuncture treatments, the herbs are based upon the diagnosis and can be rotated during the 4 phases of the menstrual cycle.

Mayan abdominal massage is very useful to increase blood

flow, decrease inflammation and add elasticity to the pelvic organs. It is recommended after menstrual bleeding and before ovulation. In addition, TCM treatment includes dietary and exercise recommendations. Generally, treatment lasts for 3-9 months.

In 2011, a Cochrane System Database Review was performed by an Australian team which found that acupuncture and Chinese medicine improve pain due to endometriosis and do not cause harm. Although research is limited and further studies are encouraged.
